Summary | 0001439: Some dwarves prefer to go further outside to nearby brook instead of inside water pool fed by the brook. |
Description | I set up a pool inside by using upwards ramps in a fashion to carefully eliminate the floor. I then cleared out the area, mined a tunnel to the water below the brook, and created a water supply tunnel. I set the area up as a water source and a fishing zone, multiple times. I smoothed walls and decorated the area. A majority of my fisherdwarves fish there and a few dwarves drink water from there. I run out of alcohol and I noticed a swarm of them running out to the brook to get water. The brook is outside and further away from the dining room/meeting hall... which is right next to the pool room. Both water supplies should be the same, but for some reason they just prefer the pool room.
My best guess there is an issue with the AI in determining what the better water source is and both are weighted either equally or slightly in favor of the outside pool. |
Steps To Reproduce | Have a brook on the map. Create an indoor pool created near the brook. Create a water tunnel to the pool. Force dwarves to drink water. |

Did you set the [o]rder for zone-only drinking? It's probably not working right now (see 0001438), but that's the way you'd force them. |

No, I haven't. I'll try to use that feature if needed, but I just thought it was weird that they'd go outside to the farther brook, instead of inside. I've checked the pool and don't see anything that'd make them avoid it, unless it is hidden. |

Dwarves go to whatever water source they feel like going to unless you tell them otherwise with the zone orders like footkerchief said. This is nothing new, and not a bug. |
|
|
|
You may want to check to see if the water in your pool is stagnant; that would make dwarves prefer cleaner water sources. |

As Footkerchief stated, zone controls cover this. Please discuss continued changes to AI/pathfinding on the suggestions forum. |
