Summary0000179: Wounded baby spams "cancels clean self: too insane."
DescriptionThere is a very wounded baby in my fortress (his mom is fine) who keeps spamming "cancels Clean Self: Too insane."

I don't think babies should have to clean themselves. The game doesn't seem to handle maimed babies properly. By all rights, the baby should be dead, as three of its limbs are mangled, and it has a chest wound. The mom is stuck with the job "wait for dodging demonstration," so I can't tell what she would do about the injuries.

Well, the baby's inability to die is definitely related to http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=33 [^] , so hope it bleeds out or something comes along and hits it in the brain soon.

What you're experiencing may be entirely resolved when the two mentioned are resolved.

I have a baby like this. The mother shouldn't have a problem, but the father is wounded and can't carry anything and is stuck spamming while trying to pick up equipment for military training. Despite him being removed from the military completely.

Ok I have something constructive to add to this. I had a mother get caught in a minor cave in while carrying her child. Neither of them got injured by the dust, but they got dusty. The baby is spamming me 'can't clean self: too insane.'

I think in this case 'too insane' simply means that the baby has no mind and is unable to clean itself. The baby can't do anything really besides hurl itself into magma and be carried. Nevertheless it is queing up 'Clean self' orders because it is dusty. The mother doesn't care.

I've handled the animal/baby issues for 0.31.05. Dwarf issues will be hanging out in 0001023 or wherever else they crop up.
