0002614: War animals attack traders at depot
On a save created in 31.08 and copied to 31.09. Was trading with a human trade caravan when the save was copied. When I loaded it in 31.09, my war dogs and war elephants began attacking the merchants, animals and guards at the trade depot. The traders did not run away or become hostile. My dwarves did not attack the traders or become scared of them. The guards and animals who were attacked did not attack my dwarves and appear to be only fighting back in self defense. Have not determined if this will happen with future trade visits yet.
Trade with a civilization, and let your tame animals wander over to the trade depot. Have not duplicated this yet.
Game was created on an earlier version of DF and save files were coped to this version.

Shortly after this the humans went on an animal-killing rampage through my fortress. They did not attack any of my dwarves, and their status never changed from 'Friendly'. I had to order my military to kill them all. That did work - the designate friendly unit to be killed function seems to work now. The humans fought back only in self-defense against my military dwarves.

Maybe something wierd happened that caused a loyalty cascade-like effect?

I just had the exact same thing happen (31.09).

The first thing that happened (that I noticed) was the merchants mule was captured in my cage trap. Then the humans began attacking all my tamed animals. (I also had tamed Elephants...)

It was also a save that was copied over from 31.08.

Yes, same thing happened to me. It's a save transferred from 31.08, humans. Finally, a way to get rid of those pet cats ;)

Just made a new game in 31.09 and after I finished trading in the depot with the initial caravan, suddenly a merchant started attacking my freshly tamed war elephant. the outpost liaison and swordsdwarf got in on the action, as well as some war dogs. The liaison and swordsdwarf killed a dog. The elephant slaughtered all the merchants, and then started killing my dwarves :( my remaining dogs seem loyal, but the elephant is totally wild, capable of interrupting people from eating, etc even though it shows (tame)

I've encountered this also, almost identically. In my case, it was the dwarven caravan. I also started a new fort in the copied region and waited for the first caravan to arrive. Hostilities between my tame animals and the merchants (and Liason) began as soon as they were near.

How about a brand new region with a brand new embark? We need to know if this is something that happens with a fresh, new download and .09 game.

I experienced this with a freshly downloaded, freshly created region, brand new embark in .09.

Ooh, it just took a turn for the worse.

Goblins ambushed a dwarven caravan, so I filled out my 4-dwarf military with milkers and lye-makers, and tried to save the merchant being chased by goblins. We went out, and my axedwarf slaughtered most of them. Suddenly, I've got a lot of messages about people being interrupted by a Speardwarf. One of my military got jumped by everyone in the fortress. I tried removing him from the military but he still was killed by the fort.

Looking at the logs, my Speardwarf attacked the outpost liason, then everyone else targeted him.
