0003283: Not saving except for seasonally.
My game will only save seasonally. It says it's saving when I choose "save game" and boots me back to the main menu, but the "current" folder is always empty.
I'm using a version downloaded with the Phoebus Tileset. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=57557.0 [^]

The "current" folder doesn't hold saved games - it holds files being used by the currently running fortress and it's also used while saving the game, but once you finish saving, everything gets copied back into the region folder you started with.

Yeah, current is kind of a misnomer.

When you load Dwarf Fortress again, there is a continue game option, correct? And there is a list of seasonal autosaves of some region. There should be something with just "Region#" - there's your save, right?

Old name isn't working anymore, for some reason. Anyway, thanks for the input, and so sorry to report what's not a bug.

It's been working for a while now, but now the "main" save isn't updating for some reason. My seasonal saves work fine, but when I go to load "region 2" it's stuck 2 years back. The "current" file looks to have been updated and emptied as per usual, but the region2 folder is stuck on my game a few days ago. I did load from a seasonal save recently (I made a stupid mistake). I changed my most recent seasonal save into a new region2 folder, so we'll see if that fixes the problem.

Ok, if you load from the seasonal save, it'll save over the seasonal save folder with the current save - while still calling it a seasonal save.

It's... kind of silly. Essentially, whatever you name the save, is what the save name stays as. So your seasonal save that you were playing on, DF considers your "new" save. It's kind of weird, but hopefully that explains it even better - and also helps you get that fortress back!

In short: Load "Region2: Autumn 193", play til Winter 194 on it, save name stays as "Autumn 193". But your seasonal saving will then generate something like "Region2: Autumn 193: Winter 194", and your current save will be in "Region2: Autumn 193".

Wow that is convoluted. Is this something that's likely to be straightened out? If not (or regardless) may I suggest more details in the wiki about these complexities? Unless they're there and I missed them on my first run-through.

I probably had the same problem.
Instead of selection the region save when loading I selected an autosave.
Later I copied old autosaves and also the region save to a backup location
From then on it was impossible to save, only autosave kept working.
I fixed it by copying the region save back into the save folder and pasting the last autosave into it (with copy & replace all).
From then on normal saving and loading worked again, providing I select the region save when loading.
Yeah, this kept me busy for about 8 hours :)

P.S. 3.12 version
