Just to clarify for others, the FPS option does not block the *PAUSED* status - it covers the indicator.

Correct. To suggest a simple fix: move the FPS indicator to the upper-right corner instead. That should work for all resolutions.

For me everything works perfectly [windows].

On Windows, the FPS indicator seems to deliberately move out of the way whenever it would be displayed on top of something important - if I view the description for an item with a long name it moves to the far left, and if I pause it moves just far enough to the right to leave "*PAUSED*" fully visible, and if I then hit Z it'll move even further to the right to make sure the fortress name is visible (unless my window is so narrow that there's no room between the fortress name and the date, in which case it doesn't move at all).

this same thing happens with me on Windows XP

FPS gauge covers rather a lot

a further tweak might be adding a F key to hide the FPS gauge for a few seconds....I dunno

Has anyone been able to reproduce this in 0.40.xx?

40.18 on Arch Linux does not reproduce. Behavior matches what Quietust described; FPS indicator moves to empty position, unless there is no empty position long enough, in which case it stays where it is.

All right, thanks. If anyone can reproduce this in 0.40.xx+, please PM me or another manager on the forums to have this report reopened.
