Summary0003983: Can't make mead -- job can't find honey when it's stockpiled?
DescriptionI have a jar with honey, honeycombs and empty barrels, and "make mead" is unavailable. It says "Needs honey-containing item". This is addition to "Unrotten honey bee honey", which I have.

Are you certain you have honey bee honey and not bumblebee honey? (if it's bumblebee honey, then 0004003 is effectively a duplicate of this, albeit with much more details)

I am certain that it is "Honey bee honey".

Has anyone else had success with making mead? Just what exactly is the "Honey-containing item" supposed to be anyway, if 'Unrotten honey bee honey" is the honey?

A quick test suggests that the problem lies with jugs not being recognized as valid containers. The similar reaction of making soap from oil does not work for me either when I have rock nut oil in jugs and lye in buckets, while the reaction to create soap from tallow does work. All three reactions use the following block to refer to the liquid container(s) in question:

    [REAGENT:X container:1:NONE:NONE:NONE:NONE]
        [CONTAINS:X]
        [PRESERVE_REAGENT]
        [DOES_NOT_DETERMINE_PRODUCT_AMOUNT]
Thus, since one type of container works while the other does, the container should be at fault. I have another test in mind, though...

<s>... yes, adding the [HAS_TOOL_USE:LIQUID_CONTAINER] tag to the jug block does allow me to queue up making mead. I haven't seen if it results in the correct alcohol yet, but I'm confident. So, as a quick fix, if you have reason to expect your liquid to be in a jug or pot, use the tool use tag on that container. Probably do not use it if you expect it in a barrel or bucket. Whether the quick fix should be the actual fix though...</s>

Or not. :( Got the Needs liquid container item error message.

I'm not having trouble making mead. I'll need a save on this -- make sure you have an empty barrel sitting around and the honey bee honey in a jug. I used a wooden jug, if it ends up being a material issue.

I've definitely had this happen to me before. I just now embarked on a site with the sole intention of rushing to mead, and it worked. So I have no idea what happened.

I'll try and see if I can get it to happen again

I think we figured out what the problem is. The dwarfs weren't able to use the jugs of honey when they are stockpiled. The same goes with oil.

I've tried editing the RAWS as above in both the save and the general raws. I sometimes have the game save load with mead brewable, but as soon as a dwarf is allocated to the job I get the announcement that he can't do the job. Then the job option is marked red in the workshop again.

Definitely honey bee honey. Definitely have jugs, pots, barrels, honey, dwarfs with the job activated.

I guess this is the same problem as 0003974, where they use all sorts of tools as barrels in food stockpiles. They should all be sorted out as once when I do that one.
