0004077: Military dwarves leave claimed equipment in the field.
Military dwarf claims equipment that is lying out in the field. It's claimed, so nobody stores it, but the dwarf isn't on active duty (yet) so it just lays out in the field.

Along comes a siege, I assign all my squads to defensive positions. Dwarf with claimed equipment runs out to field to collect his leather hood and gets mowed down.
Could work around by assigning all new dwarfs to guard duty immediately to force them to pick up their eq.

IMHO, the correct answer would be to have dwarfs claim eq and store it in their squad/personal storage location when they are drafted, even if they aren't on active duty.

You mentioned a leather hood - is it only clothing items that are on the field?

What are your equipment settings for the squad, are they set to wear armor while off duty?

Have you supplied them with personal cabinets to store their clothing in?

All my settings are default. No personnal cabinets, I'll try that.


I'll double check, put I think it was just 'clothes' which included leather caps and other uniformy type stuff.

That's what I was getting at - are they items that you have specified as part of their uniform or just their regular clothing?

If it is just their regular clothing, giving them some personal cabinets will allow them to get around to storing their stuff (it may take a bit, and will only work until their cabinets are full of stuff, mostly broken clothing, which is another issue).

Well, the job was pickup equipment(not store owned item), and it activated when I activated the squad(stuff had been laying there for months).

I don't know what he was going for, as he didn't make it, but there was something that fit the LEATHER HEADGEAR requirement for the generic LEATHER ARMOR profile I gave him.

I'll upload a save later, but I just had the same issue with military dwarves going outside to fill their waterskins as soon as they were activated with a 'Station' order.

For the file I've uploaded, there's a dwarf in the main hallway who is walking outside to pick up equipment after being activated to defend against a siege.
It's explicitly the first time the military dwarf in question has been activated since I unforbid a significant amount of goblin and elf loot.

The problem isn't that he's going outside, it's that he waited until being Stationed to go get his new hat, or whatever

Given all the clothing changes in the next rev, I'll wait till it's out to run a test
