Reminder sent to: lerugray Is your stone forbidden?
Is there a path from the inside to the place where you want to build? (checked for locked doors/hatches/etc.) |
Was granite marked as an economic stone type? |
the stone was not forbidden, or marked, plus the path was open.
my friend suggested that the bug could be one had had a while ago where his stairs stopped working. this would explain why i also had tons of idle dwarves near the entrance of my fortress with tons and tons of things to be done below. |

Are you using burrows?
Please upload a save to http://dffd.wimbli.com [^] and post a link here.
Also, what version are you using?
unfortunately i started a new game foolishly a while ago and am not running into the problem at the moment, i will post up if i do. at the time, i was not using any burrows and i am running the latest version of DF. |

Reminder sent to: lerugray Ok, last few questions because this probably duplicates another report:
Were any of your stairs in obsidian (see 0003873)?
Had you broken through a cavern layer (see 0001336)?
Did you replace any of your dug stairs with constructed ones of a different type (see 0000470)? |
i did do the thrid thing, replace a dug out up down staircase with a built up staircase. that could have been the issue, but i felt as thought my dwarves were stuck as opposed to just blocking each other and blundering, most of em were standing around. |

I'm going to mark this as a duplicate of 0000470 for now as this report isn't significantly different and we can't test further without a save, so please continue discussion of this issue there.
If you can upload a save that reproduces this issue and it is not due to the stairs (or another report, user error, etc.), please reopen this report and post your new information. |
