0004969: Lye in rock pots can't be used for making potash
Before anyone says this is a duplicate of the lye+water bug, I should mention that there is no water in this fort, and I am talking barrels not buckets anyway, so please don't make that assumption.

In my fort, I had a guy producing lye with the intent of then processing it to potash. I kept having him make more and more thinking that something was amiss, because all attempts to make potash resulted in the old 'need lye-containing item' cancellation. Finally, I found where all the lye was going: to a glazed 'lye pot (earthenware, large)' in the food stockpile.
I asked on the forums and someone said that stockpiled lye is unusable. So: I took the lye and made a special stockpile for it, and disallowed it from all other stockpiles. Sure enough, the dwarves carry this pot of lye to the new stockpile. I then removed the stockpile from under it. Sure enough, the dwarves leave it alone, since there's no other stockpile. Unfortunately, however, the dwarves leave it alone too well, as they still won't use it, despite there being no stockpile, to produce potash.
As I type this, I've tried dumping it and reclaiming it, and moving it into the center square of the workshop. Still a no-go.

Confirmed in my fortress: there is a bucket containing lye (and not water) in my Ashery, and as soon as a dwarf tries to perform the "Make Potash From Lye" job in that workshop, I get "Urist McAshley, Potash Maker cancels Make Potash From Lye: Needs lye-bearing item."

Make Potash From Ash works just fine.

Does it have to do with the lye being in an earthenware pot? If you just have barrels does it work?

The lye must be in a barrel to be used (pot counts as barrel too).
To move the lye from bucket to barrel you need to make a stockpile accepting buckets, lye and barrels (or something like that).

"The lye must be in a barrel to be used (pot counts as barrel too).
To move the lye from bucket to barrel you need to make a stockpile accepting buckets, lye and barrels (or something like that)."

Need feedback on whether these address the problem.

How does one upload a save?

For what it's worth, I did it again, and watched very closely. Haven't confirmed the rock pot/wooden barrel distinction yet, but I made some soap with two units of lye that were stored in a wooden barrel. Soap was made per normal.

So, I looked at the shop, and designated two lye and two potash from lye. The lye was made and stored in a rock pot. Another unit of lye was made. Again, the rock pot was right next to the workshop. The make potash from lye was cancelled immediately for alleged lack of lye-containing item. After the second unit of lye was added to the rock pot, I tried again, same error message.

And then I just tried to make soap again, and all the lye is in a rock pot. And every soap-making task was cancelled on account of a lack of a "lye-containing item." Maybe it is a rock thing.

How to upload a save: create a zip file containing the appropriate region folder (e.g. data/save/region1). Then upload that zip file to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] and post the link here.

If it matters for finding the fix wooden pots have the same bug too.

v0.43.05x32: Lye stored in a limestone or highwood pot is unavailable for making potash (cancels: Needs lye-bearing item.). It can, however, be used for soapmaking.
