0005124: Fatal bruising syndrome from "acrid ooze" rain
The type of rain I am getting on my current embark is titled "acrid ooze". If any creature is caught in this rain they have every part of their body bruised (including internals, spine...) then their condition worsens and they invariably die. The cause of death is a complete mystery to me, and I need help determining what is going on. I have been able to almost immediately clean my dwarves of the rain contaminants but their condition still worsens and they die extremely quickly just the same.

Walking over the rain-contaminated surface isn't dangerous while it is not raining (although perhaps shoes are protecting them?). My 3/7 dwarf path bath has had partially ooze-contaminated water in it and other dwarves passing through it have not died so from these points, I am reasonably sure it is not some sort of body-destroying syndrome that is responsible.

(ATTN: Immediately before I made the save, but after typing the preceding paragraph my Leader died. The entrance drawbridge is closed and side-door forbidden. Baffled. Maybe contaminant by itself from the bath is indeed deadly without falling from the sky? Strangely, the bath doesn't look contaminated.)

I'm baffled, and this rain is so very FUN that it can't not be bugged somehow.
On my save linked here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22990731/region2-spr-127.zip [^] have any creature incl dwarves outside whilst it is raining. The contaminant left all over the ground by the rain is not clearing, so you may have trouble figuring out if it is raining or not (unless there is a weather indicator in the UI I do not know about?).
I have both Weather and Temperature turned off in my settings (Another bug?- still evil-raining with Weather turned off.) High-temperature rain doing the damage is ruled out by this setting.

Wild animals have been creating fight reports when it rains.
Eg: "The Eagle's upper body takes the full force of the impact, bruising the muscle and bruising the right lung."
& "The Buzzard's right wing takes the full force of the impact, shattering the bone!" Note: All the report damage is written as "taking the full force".

It may not be stated clearly enough: Straight after a touch of rain they are fine, but even if they immediately go back inside to shelter and wash off they still get increasingly wounded very fast and die- seemingly from no source, but triggered by the evil rain.

I am reasonably sure it is not some sort of body-destroying syndrome that is responsible.

That's exactly what it is. http://bay12games.com/dwarves/index.html#2012-01-04 [^]
"The fisherdwarf got caught up in an eerie gloom and turned into a cursed bloodless husk that attacked his old buddies and pets. That variety of weather only takes up a slowly moving area about 40 tiles across. The troubling rain is harder to avoid but can only have mild poisonous effects."

Do you have any clouds of mist on your map in addition to the rain? It's expected behavior for rain to cause syndromes (up to and including spontaneous bruising), but yours sounds maybe a little more severe than is intentional.

My 3/7 dwarf path bath has had partially ooze-contaminated water in it and other dwarves passing through it have not died

Water with ooze in it will not function the same as the ooze itself, so that doesn't rule out a syndrome.

I have both Weather and Temperature turned off in my settings (Another bug?- still evil-raining with Weather turned off.)

Did you turn off weather after the rain started? Because that means it'll keep raining forever -- see 0000195.

Submission bug, so here's short form:
Weather/Temp was turned off at embark three-previous due to 9 FPS. Afterward, failed and abandoned two more before coming here. Not sure if it was raining/snowing on original embark as the setting was changed.

No mists/announcements of mists spotted. No normal rain. Evil rain is not constant- has breaks although short. No announcement is made when evil rain weather clears up.

Could you clarify if Haunted biomes can still receive normal rain, or can they only ever get evil-rain? I wouldn't know. Will test myself tomorrow morning.

Somebody on the forums also reported getting an evil rain that caused necrosis, leading to almost instant death. It was not the same as the "bloodless husk" curse that comes from evil clouds (the ones that look like miasma spreading across the map).

Also, it has been demonstrated (in at least one community fortress) that dirty "3/7 dwarf baths" will inflict syndromes on creatures that walk through them if they are not wearing shoes.
