0000693: Multiple simultaneous bugs.
I had just created an adventurer, and was heading down a long flight of stairs I had dug to...well, as deep as I could go.

One of the deeper inhabitants had made it's way closer to the surface and decided to attack me. The peculiar thing being, it did it from three z-levels down to the side of the stairwell, and refused to do anything but latch on to me.

Try as I might to break it's grip, nothing worked, even after I had far surpassed legendary status. Despite being able to punch it hard enough to break bones, it just sat there, latched on to me.

Thinking I might be able to kill or disarm the creature by wrestling it, I tried a few attacks, including gouging and pinching. These only resulted in an "adjusted your grip" message.

I'm fairly certain the problem was with this creature, as I punched another one's head clean off, but the problem of being able to hit distant creatures extended to my own abilities as well.

Finally, exasperated, I mashed some keys, accidentally travelling away. I suppose this might have to do with the unusual status of the creature, but I shouldn't be able to do that while it can see me, right?
Er, I'm clueless, but I've noticed a number of similar reports, and was hoping to contribute in order to make it more clear what is causing the problem.
[SPOILER]
I didn't want to spoil anything, in case someone who hadn't dug into the hell level yet was reading this, so I'll list the creatures involved here.

Elf [15 ambush skill to start with]
Lacewing Devil [invincible]
Snow Wraith [instantly punched to death]
Troglodyte + Naked Mole Rat [attacked the devil as well, to no effect]
No tags attached.

Went back later with an axe and the same creature responded well, so it is not actually invincible as I first suspected.

It probably had ludicrously though skin, and with punching being nerfed your fists where simply too blunt to hurt it. An axe cannot break bones as easily but can chop off pretty much anything organic.
