As far as I know, there was a "sparring" flag that controlled this text appearance.
If the attacker was sparring, you would get ", lightly tapping the target!", but if not then you would get ", but the attack has no force!"
The changes to the lethal/nonlethal combat states may have messed this up. Perhaps there are related 0.40.xx sparring bugs? |

I remember someone posting something about combat with a cave croc generating only sparring type combat reports.
Edit: I think it was a forum post and not an actual bug report.
Edit2: About the only report that I could find that is anywhere close to this one is 0007059, however, that bug has been fixed.

Is this bug still present? I've seen "the attack has no force" in 0.40.23. |

I don't know about 40.23, but it was my experience in 40.10-19 or so that you'd only get "lightly tapping the target!" if it was the first attack in a conflict. I assumed it was part of the AI upping the ante. |

Confirmed in v0.40.24:
The Polar Bear scratches The Stray Horse in the right rear hoof, lightly tapping the target!
(This was the first and only attack of the "combat".) |
|
|
|
Can confirm this still happens in 42.01.
