Summary | 0000838: High-flying severed body parts can leave spatters in midair |
Description | I made a killing tower to execute captured goblins, and to keep the bits from scattering across the map when they hit the floor, I walled off a square several Z levels high around the spot the goblins would land(3x4 by six z levels high) to contain flying giblets. It works, but it has an unusual side effect - the walls around the walled off area trap the giblets as they bounce instead of letting them land across the map, and it makes the bodyparts leave human blood and goblin blood splatters hovering in midair, apparently permanantely. Rain doesn't seem to clear them up the way it does blood on exposed floors or whatever. |
Steps To Reproduce | build 15 z level high tower. Build a six or so z level high square around the spot prisoners would hit the floor if thrown from the top of the tower. Throw prisoners from the top of the tower. Observe magical floating blood puddles that hang in midair forever. |

Not exactly a duplicate -- this has better information on how to reproduce, and spatter from flying body parts might be different from spatter during actual combat. |

Running a test of this in arena mode shows that you don't require bouncing. The liberated limbs will fly straight up on occasion, and you'll get spatter in mid air in any tile they have crossed. More detail in my note on bug 666. |

I have a blood spatter in mid air in my save at http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=5459 [^] -- there is blood on the open space tile on Z=+1 above the entrance to the underground, within the large walled-in area. It's directly above the note on Z=-1 that says, I believe, "NB: 'suffocated' %2".
The interesting thing was that this tile actually held up a platform that didn't have any business levitating, because it formed a link to a stable foundation. See the burrows I left as notes, also named beginning with "NB:". A floor platform in that configuration shouldn't be able to stay suspended, as far as I know, since it only had corner-to-corner connections with other stable tiles.
I also happened to notice that the invisible floor square is actually visible in Ogreseer.
