Summary | 0008704: Carpenters with no available wood idle(no job) when jobs are pending instead of performing other tasks(I.E. hauling wood) |
Description | After setting up a wood hauling mine cart system, I noticed that when there was no wood in the burrow assigned to my carpenters they would idle if there were jobs pending on the job management screen(J, M). Even if they had only the woodworking, wood hauling, and cart labors enabled, they would not haul wood when they ran out, and instead would just stand around in the meeting areas of my fort. Enabling other hauling jobs(furniture, items, food, etc) did not assign them other tasks while there were pending woodworking jobs. |
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Have no wood in a burrow.
2. Assign jobs requiring wood in the job management window(J, M, Q, bed, 30 for example).
3. Have wood available for hauling into the burrow, but no other dwarves aside from the woodworker available to haul it(be they busy or just the labor unassigned).
4. No Job. |

You said "hauling into the burrow".
So does the burrow contain both the wood and the stockpile or only the stockpile while the wood is outside?
|
|
|
|
Yes, the burrow contains both the workshop and the receiving stockpiles from the minecart system. It's at the northern end of the fortress. There are two dwarves currently set to only haul wood, so they'll need to have that labor disabled, too.

Additionally, 1333 does not describe it. The issue only occurs(I.E. they will haul otherwise) when there are pending carpentry jobs(I.E. make bed) in the job management window. |

I encountered a similar issue. Some of my dwarfs were storing items in stockpiles while the remaining 70 or so just fiddled around in the meeting areas and ignored any dump designations. When I set every stockpile with active hauling job to 'take from links only' (which means take nothing as they don't have any link), all the dwarfs rushed to take dumping jobs. This was a while ago and I didn't backup a save for it. I'll see if I can get a reproducible save next time. |
