Summary0009531: Dorfs wont gain armor or shield skills thru training or sparring until you kickstart it with real combat.
DescriptionI have a pool of about 30 soldiers... wrestlers, macedwarves, and axedwarves. Only the axedwarves have seen combat and have normal combat skill gain. Almost all of the wrestlers and macedwarves have 0 armor and shield skill, despite years of training and sparring, and uniforms that include multiple pieces of armor/shields. Only when I sent my macedwarves out into real combat did skill gain start for those two skills, and now its progressing normally.
Steps To ReproduceBuild a squad from the bottom up (0xp) and watch fighter, weapon, etc, gain but not armor, shield.

Forgot to mention. The soldiers were wearing a combination of home made leather armor and goblite copper breastplates (fit for goblins).

Also I made a modification to the entity_default under my save dir:
[PROGRESS_TRIGGER_POPULATION:1]
[PROGRESS_TRIGGER_PRODUCTION:1]
This gets the human caravans to visit. A workaround for the exported wealth bug.

Sparring was broken until 42.05.
Your dwarves have been standing around scheduled to spar, but too scared to hit each other because of some messed up effects of alcohol. No hitting each other=no weapon skills.

Ah, thats why I havent seen any sparring messages. Theyre gaining weapon skills and attributes though.

Weapon demonstrations and workshops on dodging, biting, striking and so on worked OK so you'd see some improvement there. Only sparring was busted which is where most of the armour and shield skills are trained I suppose.
