Summary | 0002264: Adv. Mode travel (near oceans) teleports player underground and turns them into an underground creature
Description | I was ambushed while traveling on the overworld map. I received the discovery message for finding the lowest underground area, that is, hell. Upon examining my surroundings, I noticed that I was a lavender jade monster peasant, surrounded by three other lavender jade monster peasants. The floors are made of slade, so I am indeed down in the underwold. The adventurer I was adventuring with is missing in action. I am now a demon for some reason.
Steps To Reproduce | I've uploaded the save to http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2480 [^] if it's of any help. I had modded goblins (and kobolds) to be playable in Adv Mode, by adding the [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] tag, with no other raw modifications. The save originates from .03 I think. The square I was traveling from was an ocean square, as I had just been visiting the shore for a little swim.

I had modded goblins (and kobolds) to be playable in Adv Mode, by adding the [INDIV_CONTROLLABLE] tag, with no other raw modifications. Did you do this mod after generating the world? |

Nah, before genning. |
(0008139) Footkerchief (manager) 2010-06-11 06:55 |
Strange. Had you generated a different world right before loading the game? That was causing ID number corruption in 0000735. |

DarthCloakedDwarf provided an additional save at 0002277: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2484 [^] Since these reports just started showing up, I'm guessing this error was introduced in 0.31.06. |

Seems that traveling near oceans may have had transformational qualities back in 40d as well: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=43278.0 [^] Though it would be odd if it were restricted to oceans. |

"See 0002264. I'll crosspost your save there. Also, did you get any announcements about discovering a map feature? You can post the answer at 0002264." Yes. "You have discovered a large cavern underground" or somesuch. The generic announcement for cavern layer one. I was walking along an ocean/lake beach when suddenly Draltha. I had not modified the raws in any way, and was playing straight Vanilla. |

I tracked down a large group from one of my fortesses in adventure mode, and it seems the game spawns some of them within the caverns, as people were getting caught in webs. |

A while back, Mephansteras noticed a similar behavior with entities/towns on oceans here ( http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=66142.msg1586611#msg1586611 [^] ). I've since repeated that behavior in my Zelda mod with zoras. I started in a cave system, but I could fast travel away, landed in a random spot on the map near town sprawl, entered it, and was in a river, and a river zora. Traveling away from there, I was then teleported to a random square in the ocean. I couldn't travel away from there, and entering it, I turned up back in the caverns, this time as a pond grabber. I may not have been a normal zora when I started the game, either, but didn't think to check. The game wasn't quite responsive in the caverns, either. I'll see about uploading a save if it helps. |

Save: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3239 [^] The saved adventurer should be a pond grabber used-to-be river zora used to be zora. Starting as a new zora adventurer should toss you into the caverns. |

This was probably fixed in 31.18. I would be amazed if it still happens |

Fixed in regards to encounters, at least. Ocean sites might still show the behavior if you somehow manage to enter one from the travel map. Unlikely to happen, but with city type civilizations it may still occur when starting as that civilization. I'll test that. Edit: Yep, in that regard it can still happen, but it isn't a given that it'll happen if there are enough towns partially on land. |

Had this happen on plain vanilla 31.17 on fresh gen. I was walking near the ocean when I had an encounter (you feel uneasy) and had a "underground river cavern" message. I had become a voracious cave crawler. I still had my quest, but everything was different from gender, stats, and inventory. I guess my uneasy feeling was the ejection of my spirit out of my body and into a underground abomination. UPDATE: I continued playing and happened under a town, when I tried to travel it worked. But I was teleported about 4 days travel in the to different town than the one I was by when all this started. I traveled to a city and stopped their, and I "became" a weapon smith. If I leave teleport randomly again. When I stop traveling it seems as though I take control of a random person (or monster) everytime I stop traveling. |

Duplicate report 0004112 indicates that this is still happening in 31.19. |

Mr Melius, I must say-- that is awesome. You've become a body-hopping transient sentience. Can you interact with your former selves after swapping? |

At 0005043, saronsen reports this happening when creating an adventurer for a human town. |

This happened to me in vanilla 34.04. It was dark and I (human adventurer) was out swimming in an ocean with one companion. I saw some ice appear nearby (edge of biome?) and I climbed out of the water onto it and decided to sleep until dawn. I woke up as a flesh ball at the bottom of a cave.... I couldn't see. (Lack of eyes?) So I went back to sleep and woke up (seemed nearly instant) as a winged fiend next to a glowing pit. I flew around a bit and went back to sleep. I then woke up (nearly instant sleep again?) as an emperor penguin on some ice somewhere in the north. There were other penguins around (Peasant? I guess to another penguin that's correct...) and for some reason a forgotten beast. I tried walking around a bit. Suddenly I and the other penguins became encased in ice. I didn't care, I was laughing so hard. Best bug ever. |
