|Summary||0000256: "Make Rock Short Sword" results in wooden short sword|
|Description||I've set my stonecrafter to constantly make rock short swords, but rather than using the obsidian that's lying around, he's using wood and making practice swords. So far he hasn't made a single obsidian sword, but that might change as wood gets more scarce|
|Steps To Reproduce||Add the "Make Rock Short Sword" job to the craft shop queue with plenty of wood around.|
|Tags||No tags attached.|
As far as i know obsidian swords use one obsidian stone AND one piece of wood.
(proof: Try to sell one to the elves and see them soil their panties over it)
|With this bug the reactin uses a sharp stone and a piece of wood, however, the finished product is called after the wood type not the stone type, i.e. "birchen short sword"|
I've run into this myself.
Question is, does the "birchen short sword" have the stats of a wooden weapon or an obsidian weapon? Can anyone verify either way?
edited on: 2010-04-09 02:08
I can't really verify, but I used them at the start of a fort once, and they seemed to at least cut up vultures pretty well.
|It is *meant* to use wood (for the handle and suchlike) so I guess what this means is it's making the wrong type of sword?|
The swords are showing up named "birchen short sword" and such.
The question is... are they -actually- wooden swords or is it just a naming error?
As in, maybe they're actually obsidian swords, just called "birchen short sword"?
|The real question is why they use an entire tree's worth of wood to make the handle. I coulda made a bed with that.|
|lol, that is dwarfy, but that's how it always was. one unit of obsidian, one unit of wood. the same one unit of wood can be used to make a bed, just as the same unit of obsidian can be used to make an entire wall section. such is life.|
... Well, uh, it's not JUST the handle that's made out of wood.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macuahuitl [^]
Essentially the idea is that it's a wooden sword with embedded shards of sharp stone.
|^ No... No it's not.|
|Care to elaborate?|
|Problly a mixup in the reaction causing the game to use the wood's name inplace of the stone, but keeping the stones stats|
|Or intended. It is a wooden short sword, after all. See Logical2u's link.|
Have the combat properties of these weapons been properly tested, or are people simply assuming that the fault is solely in the item's name?
In all likelihood, the swords probably *are* made of wood and they're doing more damage than training swords because they have sharp edges (about as sharp as wood gets, anyways), and they're being made of wood instead of obsidian due to the same bug as 0002817 (namely, using the material from the wrong ingredient).
|Additionally, due to 0000821/0000823, rock short swords are often made using copper nuggets, silver nuggets, horn silver, gold nuggets, platinum nuggets, native aluminum, or raw adamantine instead of obsidian.|
|I'm not sure if that's a bug, METAL_TEMPLATE has SHARP for a reason. (native metals should really be the exact same sharp as metals)|
