Summary0003659: Cannot embark
DescriptionI am unable to embark in a square that has a cave and a river. The game simply freezes. I am unsure if this has to do with the items I am trying to go with, the skills I am attempting to take, or what have you.
Steps To ReproduceGo to square with cave/river
Attempt to embark in a way that includes both of them in your embark square.
Play now.
Rage at freeze.
=(
Additional InformationI am embarking with turtles, 1 male and multiple female dogs, 2 miners, 1 wood cutter, 1 mason/carpenter, 1 grower/brewer/cook/ambusher(2), 1 grower/butcher/tanner/ambusher(2), 1 expedition leader with various social skills. Rest of my setup is as default with some items removed.

What size/shape is the embark?

What are the dimensions of the world?

How long have you waited to see if it is truly frozen?
(this last one is not doubting or an attack, large worldmaps or events that cause !!EXTREME!! lag such as above ground mountains of magma falling out of the sky, or 1400z level adamantine spires.)

I was having a problem similar to this. Might well be the same problem. I was using a custom world, though, with cave density/openness set to 100/100.

Was the standard size which was..what..4x4? 65x65 map. Would get to the embark screen and try to embark.

If I hit play now it would freeze
If I 'prepared carefully', I could go ahead and set up, but then it would freeze on embark.
If I used any of Mayday's presets or my own presets it would freeze once they selected them. Basically, there was a chance of freezing any time 'Strike the Earth' was supposed to appear.

I say 'Chance' because the actual freeze could happen at various points. Sometimes the 'play now' or 'prepare carefully' screen would freeze - basically whenever Strike the Earth -Should- come up. Sometimes it would freeze on the Strike the Earth screen. Sometimes it would freeze in the first moment AFTER the Strike the Earth - so I would get to the normal screen, and it would freeze.

And yes. It is truly frozen. I left for 30 minutes and came back once. It was dead.

It -might-, for me, have had something to do with water and lava bleeding into the HFS way down below. But if that were true, you'd think it wouldn't freeze until that final place every time, instead of just prior or on the Strike the Earth screen.

Each time was a 4x4 with a limestone layer and river. Changes in cavern size away from 100/100 -seems- to have fixed this problem for me, but maybe that's not true if Thunndar is having this problem.

I left it on over a period of an hour while I was watching TV. Considering an embark usually took about 30 seconds (including the time between the message and your game to load) in .16, yeah. This was solved by not embarking on a cave/river tile, and not bringing turtles or training up social skills before embark.

This seems to be a problem with multiple biomes/whatever being in an embark area. Had this happen several times in mountain/woods biomes. 0005622 contains a similar problem, with what I had thought at first had been Windows updating itself.
