Summary0000470: Up/down stairs break pathfinding.
DescriptionI had a line of up/down stairs extending down to the bottom of my fort, lowest level was the z level above an underground lake. Because it had an up/down stair, that meant my dwarves using the stairs could see creatures inside the lake, and that sent them off in terror. I built an up stair over the bottom up/down stair, since it was only used to go up and there was no part of my fort below it, hoping this would stop my dwarves looking into the tunnel. Instead, it totally obliterated my fort. Pathfinding died totally, the game dropped to a couple of FPS and the 'dwarf cancels task cannot find path' spam became almost infinite.
Steps To Reproducedig a series of up/down stairs, so that dwarves can use them to move between z levels. make a room at the bottom z level and put something in there so your dwarves have a reason to go there, then replace the bottom up/down stair with an up stair. Dwarves trying to use the staircase will generate massive pathfinding spam, game dies a slow death, etcetera.
Additional InformationCannot be replicated with previous version of DF.

Does this bug survive through a save/load? If so, it may be helpful to upload a save. http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^]

I've noticed that my pathfinding spam goes away after some time has passed. I don't use the combined up/down stair though. I'm getting the feeling that new constructions aren't passable for a while. Also, I feel like my dwarves are blocking each other sometimes. On thing I've done with stockpiles is get rid of any "landlocked" tiles. I'll draw a big rectangle, then use "remove stockpile" on it until I have a bunch of 2xN strips.

Is this bug still present in 31.03? If it only happens in the bottom cavern layer (adamantine, magma sea, etc.), then it's 0001319.

Haven't tried to replicate this one in 31.03, but the problem was with a building in a stone layer and not in/near the magma sea anyway.
