As far as I can tell, this only happens with fingers, (maybe) toes, and the small body parts connected to the head (cheeks and ears). I've failed to isolate the problem so far, but I suspect there's something generally wrong with how very small body parts bleed. More info would be helpful. These reports mention ears, fingers, toes and cheeks: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=52356.0 [^] |

Happened to me too: Iron bolt first stuck, bleeded for a long time, when i pulled it out it was bleeding still. After some time save loaded and 1 turn after it stopped. But it happened to me first time after two hundred or so fights so it's quite rare |
(0002126) toybasher (reporter) 2010-04-08 12:34 |
But footkerchief (man I LOVE your name lol) If you pinch an elves ear (another bug???) the bleeding is minor and stops quickly? |
(0002161) Chthonic (reporter) 2010-04-08 14:38 |
Are you playing as an elf? They are incredible pansies. |
(0002411) Footkerchief (manager) 2010-04-09 13:26 |
toybasher: I've never been able to reproduce it consistently, and it might only happen with projectiles or something, I'm not sure. |

Okay, I did some more testing. Stuck-ins bleed forever unless the weapon is removed. This is directly contrary to intended behavior: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/dev_2009.html#2009-01-22 [^] "Associated stuck-ins to particular wounds and used that to modify how they behave with twists, bleeding and pull-outs. Twisting won't just keep amplifying bleeding to bizarre levels as it does in the currently released version and leaving items stuck in will actually slow the bleeding somewhat, so just sitting there and twisting should no longer be preferable." |

yes, However I removed the arrow. It was lodged inside the throat skin. No arteries were severed and the wound was only brown. Yet the bleeding didnt stop and my charactor eventually died from bloodloss. Perhaps stuckins are bugged? Lastly, The bleeding was only minor. Not BLEEDING! just Bleeding. |
(0002641) toybasher (reporter) 2010-04-10 13:52 |
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- It happened again! Thsi time with a elven arrow to the damn cheek (the cheeks on the face I mean) |
(0002994) Footkerchief (manager) 2010-04-12 00:07 |
We may need more info on this bug to track it down. If your adventurer bleeds to death from a minor wound, please post these details here: - what precise body part was injured - what weapon/projectile caused it - whether the weapon stuck in the wound (and if so, whether you pulled it out) |
(0003046) toybasher (reporter) 2010-04-12 08:28 |
When it happened it was in my right or left cheek, and it was stuck inside so i ripped the sucker right out, it was a wooden arrow. it just said minor bleeding liek before but it didnt stop... like I have said 99 times lol, eventually I got bored and painted some buildings completely red. after a while of waundering my character went faint, then pale, then he died and I ragequitted. |
(0003714) toybasher (reporter) 2010-04-15 10:24 |
Im still looking into it sand it seems it ALWAYS happens when a arrow or bolt (not sure if it works on crossbow bolts Probually does) gets stuck in the wound. |
(0004045) toybasher (reporter) 2010-04-18 06:49 |
Might have somthing to do with 0001292 |
(0004057) toybasher (reporter) 2010-04-18 10:07 |
This has happened again to my adventurer. It was tuck in his lip, but this time it was heavy bleeding (BLEEDING!) |

Alright happened with a crossbow bolt to the eye whitch is wierd since I reported that eye injurys always heal. I mean eyes cant be destroyed and they always heal but i bled to death from another bolt to the eye. |
(0004776) toybasher (reporter) 2010-04-23 14:48 |
Can an admin come along and change the summery so it says they WILL bleed forever if stuck in cheeks? |
(0004877) toybasher (reporter) 2010-04-24 06:53 |
Thank you Footkerchief. |
(0006205) toybasher (reporter) 2010-05-05 12:54 |

(0006330) Nihilist (reporter) 2010-05-06 19:49 |
Can report this from wooden arrows in my adv's upper body |
(0006440) derigo (reporter) 2010-05-08 23:09 |
Taking this in another directions, arrows or bolts stuck into cheecks etc in dwarf mode also cause the injured patients to bleed to death _very_ quickly unless they are completely treated by the doctors. If you have an ambush or siege made entirely out of archers, your entire military is likely to die from arrows stuck in thier cheeks/ears/noses. Treatment just doesn't progress fast enough to finish treating the all wounds before they bleed to death. |
(0006591) Jiri Petru (reporter) 2010-05-12 09:20 edited on: 2010-05-12 10:11 |
This definitely happens in the Dwarf mode too. http://sklad.obrazku.cz/obr390352_bleedout.png [^] This is my dwarf who'll in a moment bleed out from a brown injury to his throat. He's got a bolt there. I've also seen this happen with a bolt in lower right arm, so perhaps it's not limited to certain bodyparts only? EDIT: I suggest changing this to major severity, because it makes the game frustrating as hell. Anyone who gets scratched by a bolt is practically dead, and attacking crossbowgoblins is a suicide. Also, perhaps changing the category from Adventure mode to something more general would be in order? |
(0006593) derigo (reporter) 2010-05-12 10:20 edited on: 2010-05-12 10:26 |
Yea this is trivial to verify. In the testing arena just make 2 archers duke it out. They will ALWAYS both die. One will get lucky and kill the other. The survivor will bleed to death shortly later. I had a Forgotten beast in my sealed off cave system get a blowdart stuck in his leg from an ant man blowgunner. A few years later I noticed the ENTIRE cave system was covered in blood. The beast had just been frolicking around down there bleeding all over the place. Has anyone tried unforbidding the stuck-in projectiles, to see if they will get removed in dwarf mode? You can't do that in arena mode. And Footkerchief, this happens with any stick-in not just cheeks/etc. The description is inaccurate. People probably see it happen to cheeks a lot because cheeks, facial features, fingers, etc are currently unprotected by armor. |
(0006594) Footkerchief (manager) 2010-05-12 10:36 edited on: 2010-05-12 10:41 |
derigo: the current description is meant to convey that 1) all wounds from stuck-in projectiles bleed until the projectile is removed, and 2) wounds from projectiles that stick in the cheek (etc.) bleed forever even after the projectile is pulled out 2 I'm still not entirely sure about. |
(0006596) derigo (reporter) 2010-05-12 11:48 edited on: 2010-05-12 12:07 |
Hmm, ok. I'll TRY to verify/contradict 2. I'm not exactly an expert on adventure mode though. ;p UPDATE: 2 is verified. Got a bolt stuck in my cheek, pulled it out, had minor bleeding for days. Wrote my name in blood. Walked across a forest to another town (you can't travel, it says "You must stop the bleeding before you can travel!"). Eventually got faint, fell unconscious, and died. I'm gonna try to get a bolt stuck in something like a hand or a limb and see if its the same now. |
(0006649) toybasher (reporter) 2010-05-13 11:38 |
Happened and I had to savescum 12 times in a row, (No joke) arrows kept going in my cheeks and I bled to death, all 12 times. |

toybasher: arrows kept going in my cheeks and I bled to death, all 12 times. Did you pull out the arrows or not? |
(0006660) toybasher (reporter) 2010-05-13 17:20 |
Well I moved about 13 times and the bleeding didnt stop , so I removed it and it kept bleeding, whatever you do you wont stop bleeding Can you please bring up the priority to high? Thanks, |
(0006699) Morrigi (reporter) 2010-05-14 15:10 |
It's happened to me twice, both from arrows to the face. One hit my cheek, one my lip, and i bled to death after a minute or two. |
(0006703) Footkerchief (manager) 2010-05-14 16:12 edited on: 2010-05-14 16:12 |
Can you please bring up the priority to high? Thanks, The priority field doesn't matter. I think Toady said he would remove it if he knew how. |
(0006704) derigo (reporter) 2010-05-14 16:17 |
I tried to get an arrow stuck in a normal (non-SMALL) body part like a hand, to see if the bleeding could be stopped. But every time I managed to have that happen it would also break my hand, and then I'd die without being able to test it. I gave up trying after about 7 deaths along these lines. |
(0006707) Footkerchief (manager) 2010-05-14 18:19 |
derigo, I don't know if you know this, but you can test this stuff in Arena Mode too. |
(0006717) toybasher (reporter) 2010-05-15 07:47 edited on: 2010-05-15 07:50 |
Footkerchief, can you try and up the severity to major at least? Thanks, |
(0006730) Footkerchief (manager) 2010-05-15 10:51 |
Severity doesn't matter either, unless it's a crash. You need to get used to the fact that it may be a while before this bug gets fixed. There are a lot of other bad bugs. |
(0006739) derigo (reporter) 2010-05-15 15:50 |
Footkerchief, I ..._did_ know that, I did. But it never even once occurred to me to do it that way. ;p Confirmed, regular body parts (I used a foot) also bleed indefinitely after a stuck in, even if you remove it. |
(0006755) Footkerchief (manager) 2010-05-16 00:38 edited on: 2010-05-16 00:44 |
Just to make sure: was it a foot or a toe that was bleeding? A post in the Bug Reports thread (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=52356.msg1256158#msg1256158 [^]) corroborates a related problem I observed during pre-release testing: when people die from this kind of bleeding, the killer doesn't get credited. |
(0006760) derigo (reporter) 2010-05-16 05:47 |
Definitely a foot. I made absolutely sure, because I knew that's what you were looking for. I used the fact that body armor with UBSTEP:MAX covers all body parts (including fingers and toes and facial features) except for hands and feet and heads. Gave the guy as many robes as he would wear, and a helm and danced around while 3 archers shot at me (bruising me through the robes, but not doing any real damage) until I got a stuckin in my foot, then I pulled out the arrow, walked over and killed (was high master axedwarf and they were naked). Bled forever and died. |
(0007228) toybasher (reporter) 2010-05-23 15:07 |
grrr... it seems it might not evenmatter if its a small body part... |
(0007338) toybasher (reporter) 2010-05-26 04:09 |
This has happened again yesterday. Was a bronze bolt stuck in my humans mouth. (Couldnt he just spit it out?) I eventually bled to death. |
(0009307) toybasher (reporter) 2010-06-29 10:44 |

(0009336) toybasher (reporter) 2010-06-29 16:37 edited on: 2010-07-01 16:18 |
can you update the summery? It ALWAYS makes you bleed to death even if its not a small body part. And even if you remove it it WILL NOT stop bleeding. ON a side note, I will test this in adventure mode real fast, I am wondering if it dont matter if its a bolt or a random object and if it happens to enemies |
(0009479) smjjames (reporter) 2010-07-01 17:16 |
Possibly testable in arena mode since yesterday I got an ogre who got a weapon stuck in the foot and was bleeding so much that I was able to paint the entire southeast quadrant floor outside of the 'fortress' red. He still kept bleeding after he likely should have died. |
(0009660) eerr (reporter) 2010-07-05 14:34 |
Theory: the tag for [MAJOR ARTERY] is doing the exact OPPOSITE of what it should. And those body parts which bleed, but do not have the [MAJOR_ARTERY] tag act as if the heart was just punctured. |
(0009675) Toady One (administrator) 2010-07-06 03:59 |
There were two weird issues with the stuck-in flag (well, one weird issue and one regular mistake) that made them bleed forever and fail to realize there wasn't an item stuck in the wound even after it was pulled out. Those are resolved now for 0.31.09. |
