It's just one of those quirks of DF. The good thing though is that demands, unlike mandates, can be safely ignored without having one of your dwarves punished and the noble will forget about it after a while.

"It's just one of those quirks of DF."

It's surprising how many bugs you describe as "quirks" smjjames.

This is clearly a bug even if it's very benign.

Are you sure it is a bug? If the materials and the objects exist, there are those in the real world that will insist they have an object made of the material... Even if no one in their right mind is going to make it.

Add to that the fact that moods do often produce these things. ^^;;

After all, what kind of tyrant would be be if he asked for things you could actually produce? :)

Countess just demanded a steel bed in her tomb. Of course, a platinum bed would've been fine, since a moody blacksmith made one several years back.

My Countess is demanding a brass bed in her tomb... what is it with countesses wanting beds in their tombs? Bit creepy if you ask me.

Mayor demands bismuth bronze bed in office. I'm with Malibu Stacey: it's a bug and should be fixed, unless it's the result of some actual mental instability in the ruler in question. I have no problem with unstable rulers making wacky requests, but healthy dwarves should not.

Mayor demanded a platinum bed in his office. Impossible to complete unless a dwarf has a mood.

you know, usually they have a terrible "accident" after demanding such things.

I can't say I've paid attention to demands in recent forts - did the mandate fix for 34.01 relax these types of demands as well (it was released around the time reporters stopped posting here)?

Just want to add, I have this in 2014 version. For me it's a bone throne from a kind of bird that doesn't even exist in my climate. Last I checked, bone is one of the materials you cannot make a throne out of, thus it's not isolated to beds.

Vanilla 0.44.05. My duchess just demanded trifle pewter table in her dining room. I have in stock like 50 trifle pewter bars. :) Still, she can keep dreaming. :)

This entire faulty economic system of owning personal items, demands on items, production order demands, coins and hungry Dwarves eating basic cooking ingredients, when complaining about missing lavish food, while there are 100+ barrels of it... needs sorely rewriting from ground up. Including missing treasury workshop to store all material coins in.

I know, there are people, who understand feudalism in the socialist lying propaganda way, but seriously even basic corporate capitalism is more close to it, then all you can squeeze out of the faulty socialist propaganda lies about feudalism. Like missing basic understanding, that feudal peasantry were actually small capitalists and not seasonal farm workers. Those last were hired by those feudal peasants in turn and not by noble land owners. Socialism puts entire feudal economy around on head, to coin phrase, that someone supposedly was "slave" in this economic system despite owning privately capital or shares in it.

Reminder sent to: Sarmatian123

That sounds like suggestion territory and something more appropriate to discuss on the forums than in the bug report.
Thanks.

Decorating a door with turtle shell will do IIRC, it need not be a 100% turtle shell door. You can also cut some clear glass and encrust a bed with them.

Impossible objects can be created by fey moods sometimes, also. There was a floodgate made out of bone...
