Summary0010727: Nemesis Unit Load Failed
DescriptionAfter killing an Ettin for a quest, I ventured to the nearest town to spread the news, but discovered after exiting fast travel that the game crashed with the notification of "FATAL ERROR - Nemesis Unit Load Failed."
Likely a corrupted save file, which would be immensely disappointing.
Steps To Reproduce-Fast travel character to nearby town. Can be any, but I myself went to a human town and a human hamlet (the town of which I've defended from ghouls).
-Stop traveling and enter local view.
OR
-Fast travel aimlessly until night sets in.
-Sleep.
-Upon waking up, game crashes with the message "Dwarf Fortress.exe has stopped working," a different message from Nemesis Unit Load Failed.
Additional Information-Attempted to walk into the town from the outskirts, crashed immediately when two tiles of a house appeared.
-Companions were dismissed prior to leaving the Ettin cave to see if it was an issue with the party. This didn't solve anything.
-Uncertain if this affects goblin or elvish civilizations.
-Downloaded a new DF file and loaded the save, but crashing persists.

Also guys, sorry if it's just a corrupted save file. I wasn't certain as I haven't run into this problem before, but it comes as a huge disappointment as I've invested quite a bit of time into this adventurer.

I also deleted the character save and attempted to play the world as a Dwarf Fortress. They game immediately crashed while attempting to generate the months leading up to the expedition, which probably means it's a corrupted world unfortunately.

The good news is that Toady One changed how the game handles this failure so it will attempt to regenerate the bad unit (0009985). The bad news is that you'll have to wait until the next version is released to try it out, and there's no guarantee that it will fix your save.
