0010896: Placing a cage with b-j kills friendly militia dwarf inside the cage
If you have a cage with a friendly militia dwarf in it (due to 0003218 or 0001168), building the cage will kill the dwarf. The dwarf will not show up in the unit list as missing, dead or alive. The dwarf dies instantly when placing the cage, reagardless of previous health or equipment.

The dwarf ended up inside the cage probably because of this:

1. Attempt to cage a friendly dwarf or obtain a bugged save with a caged dwarf
2. Will only work on active militia dwarves
3. Wait for the cage to be hauled to the stockpile
4. Build the cage.
A dwarf captured this way and left alone will break morale and go SRM far faster/earlier than he would be affected by thirst or hunger.

Attempting to dump the cage kills the dwarf and destroys the cage and all items in it with no announcement. Eg it has the exact same effect as trash-compacting.
The trapped unit can only be released by setting the cage on fire. Any other attempt destroys the unit and all items carried.

I was unable to reproduce this in vanilla v0.44.12; a cage containing an active duty militia commander was hauled into position, constructed, linked to a lever, and opened without any apparent harm to its occupant.

I was able to build the cage, link a lever, and release Minkot without any problems in vanilla v0.44.12. What mods are you using?

LNP without modifications, when I build the cage the dwarf dies.

Many "starter packs" automatically enable "helpful" mods by default, and your save strongly suggests you are at least using a tileset or graphic set.

Would you please attempt to reproduce the problem with your save on a vanilla v0.44.12 install?
