I thought about slaying periodically forming up troll patrols one by one but up to 6 at once show up during those encounters for a civilization that has too many of them or perhaps only beak dogs are left in huge numbers in my case? |

Not a bug, [ALL_ACTIVE] activity between beak dogs & trolls keep them awake day and night without simulating "sleeping" out of sight for other times of day animals experience in adventure mode. Trolls only need to sleep when they're physically drowsy and have [LOW_LIGHT_VISION:10000] for the caverns like dwarves make them excellent night spotters.

In vanilla DF they are scooped up by a number of RAW tokens interacting with each other (creature: [EVIL] + [SEMI_INTELLIGENT] + entity: [USE_EVIL_ANIMALS]) and would typicallly be non-historical and therefore replenish their numbers when out of sight.
