0001513: Militia with clothing assigned as equipment leave it in piles on the floor randomly
By making high quality clothes from a legendary clothesmaker and/or leatherworker you can (theoretically) have your milita layer their armor over their clothes and become that much more invulnerable. In d40 high quality clothes added a LOT of protection.

The arsenal dwarf eventually assigns your militia the highest quality equipment available in each slot (this can take a long time), so eventually, a squad with an outfit specifically assigned to them will get all legendary clothes under legendary armor.

But for some reason, the squad members will periodically dump all their clothes in a pile wherever they happen to be. Perhaps the arsenal dwarf assigned them different clothes? I'm not sure what's going on. But they don't seem to do the same thing with armor, only clothes.
1) assign squad clothes through equipment manager (using material type and slot, not specific)
2) have clothes for them to wear
3) have an arsenal dwarf
4) let them go on about their squadly duties perhaps assign them to a station
5) watch them drop their cloths in a pile from time to time
This is fairly annoying and dangerous since if the squad drops their clothes in a dangerous place that they were guarding, the haulers will come along and pick all the stuff up. You can send the squad to guard them while they do that, but they'll probably drop some more clothes while they're there.

more notes, uniform is set on 'replace clothing,' 'exact match,' squad is set to stay uniformed when off duty. This seems to happen when taking a squad off active station or, canceling a kill order (causing them to go civie), but it also seems to happen when they get sleepy hungry or thirsty enough to leave their post (they don't go civie in this case), or when they stop training(off-duty training, idk about on-duty training because I don't use it because it doesn't work).

However it's not 100%, some of the militia will hang on to their clothes.

I think they're trying(and failing) to switch into a civilian outfit, or something, despite being specifically ordered not to do so.

It is worth check if these clothes changed into xclothesx. This could fail "exact match" test in some cases.

No they haven't. Also, I am not using 'specific' assignments, only type assignments. 'Exact match' in this case means 'plant fiber cloak' etc rather than one made of silk, not a specific cloak.

Could this be the clothing equivalent of 0000774?

No I have stopped all crafting atm. It's also functionally different. In the bug you mentioned, the militia go and put the offending item away in a stockpile. In this bug, they just drop all their clothes in a pile wherever they happen to be standing and go get a drink.

This one might be an arsenal dwarf related issue. I wouldn't say close it just yet though.

Do they drop their clothes at the end of each month?

I seem to be having this same problem, or at least one very similar. I set a couple squads to train with only leather armor -- specifically, cloaks, trousers, gloves, and caps -- and no weapons (their metallic gear was waiting on magma development). There's now a bunch of leather items randomly around the barracks area, and now every so often a dwarf will wander out there with a "picking up equipment" message, fail to do so, then wander back with 'unable to complete order."
My guess is it's connected to the old bug with wrestlers tearing clothes off each other and scattering them permanently around the barracks, but I'm not sure.

v31.25, I see this. For me, the clothes I find randomly around are all worn, ie XtrousersX, so maybe they are being replaced? Also, I've noticed that equipment dropped by the dwarves is sometime forbidden. I find 3-5 flasks every year forbidden. The flasks that are forbidden are filled with booze, if that helps. Also, often the weapons of dwarves are forbidden. I don't know how that happens, either.

Toady may need an up-to-date save (0.34.02+) to fix this problem. It would be helpful for someone to upload a save to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] and post the link here.

This sounds suspiciously like 0001451, if the dwarves abandoning their uniform-assigned clothing had mining, wood-cutting, or hunting labors enabled. However, since no save was provided it is impossible to confirm that hypothesis. Regardless, much has changed in the intervening 5 years and uniform-assigned clothing appears to be mostly working these days (barring 0001451 shenanigans). If you come across this issue in a more recent version, and rule out 0001451, please open a new bug report.
