0004861: Make dwarfs prefer to pickup weapons/armour with prior attachment
Dwarfs gain attachment to weapons but only when they are part of the current uniform. If you change the uniform the dwarf "forgets" the weapon. You'd expect them to keep hold of the weapon they have grown to know and love if possible (i.e. if within limits of new uniform).
Dwarf grows attached to Sharp Spikey Sword of DOOM!
change uniform - still allows for said sword.
Dwarf drops current uniform, including said sword.
Dwarf picks up unknown boring short sword.
Dwarf is unhappy with useless weapon and dreams of better days.
I think this is related to the axe + woodcutter/ axe + military problem where a dwarf will drop current items and then those items are "in use" while they choose their new weapon ( because its being dropped! )

Did you happen to notice if the weapon was forbidden due to being 'stuck in' at some point?

I'm marking this as a duplicate for now, unless OP can verify that the weapon wasn't forbidden due to being stuck-in at some point.
