0005191: If merchants arrive and no trade depot is built for them, they go crazy instead of leaving
I am in the first winter of my fortress. I did not build a Trade Depot because I had nothing worth trading. I had thought the merchants had left, but it appears that he and his horse stayed at the edge of the map. I just received an announcement that the merchant had been stricken with melancholy, and that his horse had gone stark-raving mad. They are right next to the border where they arrived, there is nothing that prevented them from leaving. The outpost liaison hasn't left either, but that's just because my expedition leader has been busy.
I have not tried, but presumably just don't build a trade depot in your first year.
