0007866: Marksdwarves constant mismatch spam
I have no idea what marksdwarves can't pick up, but out of the 4 squads I have, and despite them being around for years they basically constantly go to the armor equipment pile and complain about mismatch.

This might be a leather armor complaint. They are the only squad wearing leather armor. There is ample leather armor sets in the stockpile. I notice that despite marking the items Green on the equipment screen most of them aren't wearing what they're supposed to be wearing (exact matches, on leather armor, helm, leggings, gloves, helm and shield)

I wondered if this has to do with the "Archer" uniform designation of a "leather shield/buckler" You can make such a shield, but I notice that if I try to manually designate a shield for them and choose "material" leather is not a choice. 10,000 kinds of wood, yes, and metals, but leather doesn't seem to be on the list. I've scrolled through several times, but might have missed it.

Leather armor seems to be a choice on its own and you can choose the material to designate "leather leather armor".

I've tried removing the leather armor choice and just choosing "leather armor" from the armor menu (no material designation) and removed leather shield/buckler and just put shield.

However, it seems they still generate this mismatch spam.

It doesn't seem to be about bolts, or at least not all of it.

Leather shields is 0004883.
Leather armor is 0000423.
If it is ammo, it is 0004084.
Overall, for equipment mismatch, go to 0000535, or search the child issues for more specific marksdwarf related issues.

But search.

Just lost the entire update to an "invalid security token"... sigh..

Here is a rough bullet point with less detail:

1. Removed 2 dwarves from squad, didn't immediately notice any mismatch spam
2. added 1 back but they weren't synced so they got bolts at separate times
3. added the third back, a lot of weird stuff starting happening
--Squad members would finish the task they were doing (shooting, picking something) then just take off a boot, which would cause them to wander over to the armor bin and drag the bin across the fort to pick it up. All their armor is leather, set to replace clothes.
4. Got a mismatch with the militia commander at the bolt bins. At the time it popped, B was going to the armor pile, and C was shooting (with at least 5 bolts left) Neither one of them should have been claiming any bolts from the pile. Bone carvers are long done (finally) making bolts.

Equipment seems very wonky with the marksdwarves. They are randomly dropping equipment, causing them to run around and grab bins. The mistmatches aren't preventing equipment from being picked up and they still wear all, but if you had a couple squads of 10 dwarves training, that's a lot of message spam for basically nothing. Not that I can figure out what it is they're mismatching on.

It would be really nice if that message would list the item.

I had this all the time in 34.11. It's a bug that's been around for a while. I think it might be the bolts since I've noticed that (in 34.11) when I set the bolts to be quantum stockpiled rather than in bins, I don't get that message spam.

I agree though that it would be nice if the message listed the item, helps to have info to go with it.

As I understand it, this is a diagnostic message that isn't particularly useful for diagnosing anything. Despite the scary-sounding announcement, the dwarves are able to locate and procure the proper equipment (as well as normal, anyway). I'd say the real bug here is that the game is announcing the mismatches to the player. Drop the announcement and dwarves will continue to select equipment in their own peculiar way without needlessly confusing/annoying players.

If there is an actual error we should be told. If there isn't one, we shouldn't. I get enough spam with just 3 dwarves. 20 dwarves and the logs would be unreadable over all this.
