The game works just fine if libgcc_s.so.1 is removed from the libs directory

Did 0.43.03 also work when removing that? Some people might need it still, if they don't have GCC 4.8, although libgcc_s tends to have better compatibility, so it might be possible to remove it. Is it causing issues for you?

I didn't test with 0.43.03, so I don't know.

Also, leaving it in is causing no issues that I know of, but it seems to me that using a non-standard copy of such a central and low-level library is iffy.

I don't even have a libgcc_s on my system, had to look up what it was. Removing it let me start up DF with no issue.

Unless this is actually causing problems, I think maintaining compatibility with people who might need this library included is better. Feel free to reopen this if it is causing problems, though.
