|Summary||0010364: Instant crash upon selecting retired adventurer|
|Description||In a medium region with a history of eight hundred years, I recently retired an adventurer as to pass two weeks without having to scout for food. Upon selecting him as to bring him out of retirement, the game immediately crashed. I created a new adventurer, this one having a different species, class and location, and retired him to test the crash. Upon trying to bring him out of retirement, the game crashed again.|
|Steps To Reproduce||Create an adventurer, retire him, and then try to bring him out of retirement.|
|Additional Information||The crash appears to happen 100% of the time. Please inform me if the save is needed.|

Yeah, better provide a save. Tried it out myself (medium world, 260 year history) and crashed every time. But my game's using various raw tweaks so I switched to completely vanilla 44.02 and managed to unretire twice with no crashes (smaller world, short history). Definitely something odd going on. Not sure what. Will upload a save myself.
Not vanilla. Lots of raw tweaks (but no crash with the same tweaks in 43.05). Wasn't using any utils. Should crash when unretiring either of the adventurers in the save, or starting new ones and unretiring them.

|Created adventurer (dwarf, hero, woman, mountainhome), retired her, successfully unretired her. Fresh world in vanilla 64b Linux DF 0.44.02. So at least it does not crash for all adventurer retiring in this version.|
Still happens in DF 0.44.12.
Looks like game crushes when your adventurer somehow interact with your fortress.
- retire adventuer in your fortress, play fortress, try to unretire adventurer, crash
- find vault, retire adventurer at it, start fortress, conqueror vault, try to unretire adventurer

Here's another Adventurer save retire - unretire crash demonstration from 44.12. Open this save and retire. Unretire should crash the game. This adventure is in their starting location, a reclaimed cave that is demonstrating unrelated (presumably) buggy npc behavior. It seems that the adventurer isn't present in Legends mode for some reason too.
This isn't something which happens every time, I've unretired adventurers in this version with these same raw tweaks successfully.
Unlike above comment, this world features no player fortresses.
--edit: I have just checked, in this world adventurers all crash on unretire (tried with adventurers from other civs too). But generating a new world (44.12 again, all the same raw tweaks) works just fine. So...not sure what conclusions to draw from that.
-- Compressed saves is set to on, so it could just be regular save corruption caused by that bug.

0011185 and 0010364 (as well as 0010364:0037025, 0010364:0039554) would crash on selecting any of the existing adventurers with the same backtrace. Creating new adventurer and fortress mode embark work fine. Two of three possible options in "specific person" list from 10364 don't seem to be present in the legends (1/1 absent in 37025, and 1/2 in 39554; reported in 0011168)
0010239 is the same, there is two preset "specific person" adventurers, both of which crash and are absent from the legends. The report originates from 43.05, so the issue isn't a recent invention. Creating and immediate retiring another random adventurer would add one more bugged "specific person", however reflected in legends mode
I couldn't get "related" 0010383 and 0010398 to crash under any conditions on the current version
|Might be related to modded dwarves "crash on pressing embark" skill levels. Removing natural_skill tags from fort mode dwarves prevented embark-crash.|
|You mentioned in the forum that it's mostly mining, smelting, metalworking, etc that cause the fortress mode embark crash. These are all skills that that adventurers don't gain.|
|Mining is recently on 47.01~~ a accessible skill in the new adventurer creation screen.|
Yes, please note that all these crashes predate 47.01.
Also, natural_skill bug is crashing before entering the fortress dwarf skills/items screen, not embark to the map.
