Summary | 0010729: Population counts on fortress mode sites misleading
Description | In the save below, I recently sent out a squad to pillage a dark fortress 1 day's travel to the NE called "SprinkledFly". In the 'c' map screen, when I hovered the site, it said that the population was ~ 75. So I thought my 10 man squad would do well, so I sent them off on a pillage mission. When the returned and I read the mission report, I was surprised to find that they faced an army of over 2500 ogres. Luckily they escaped with just 3 lost in battle. I think the population estimate given on the map should reflect more accurately the number of potential opponents. If I had known, I would have selected the sneaky mission instead of the full open attack. I don't know if it is because the population count is only counting the historical figures. http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13709 [^]

Sorry, don't know why in the post above the population number came out all funny. That sentence should have read: In the 'c' map screen, when I hovered the site, it said that the population was 75. |

Pets, even semi-intelligent ones like trolls and ogres aren't counted as part of the population. |

oh ok, but maybe when you hover over a site it can give more of a total breakdown of all the occupants. My point was that I wasn't expecting to encounter 2500 beings when pillaging that site because I thought there were going to be about 75. As far as I can tell there is no other way to know who lives there other than retiring the fort and going into legends mode. Maybe we could have a spy mission type as well to reconnoitre a site before attacking perhaps? |

Interrogating prisoners for info and sending spies is part of this update cycle, yes. Probably better off posting specific suggestions for these features on the Suggestions board though. |

@sionlife: The tracker uses '~' as a special character to auto-link to a note (in your case, note 75). Adding a space prevents this behavior. |

Yeah. Something's wrong with this. I just "raided" a goblin fortress with 10 goblins... and 1462 trolls unaccounted in the census. Raiding just stopped being a fun way to lose. |
