Summary | 0011721: Unable to launch game, "index" not in "data" folder
Description | Unable to launch game. After first downloading and extracting, I get this error message: "Main index file missing/corrupted. The file "index" must be in the "data" folder. Make sure DF decompressed into its folders properly." I have looked, and the index file is in the data folder. I tried deleting and re-downloading the game, and I get the same result. As far as I can tell it decompressed properly when I extracted it.
Steps To Reproduce | I can't be sure it'd work for others, but every time I try to open it, the game gives me the same error.

Where are you downloading the game from? (Other people are playing DF so it's some issue on your computer causing the error for some reason). |

Yeah, I'm sure that's the case, but I don't know what it is. I'm downloading straight from http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/, [^] and I specifically take the Windows version, of course. |

Where are you trying to extract the game to? Windoze has (not so) funny ideas about where users should be allowed to access files to various extents. C: doesn't work well, and the desktop doesn't either, for instance. I typically place games in C:\Games (or D:\Games if there's a broken "OS" partition in the computer). |

That did it! I just moved the folder from a another spot in C: to C:\Games and it worked right away. Thanks for taking the time everyone. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to pick a world and stripmine the whole damn thing! |
