Summary | 0001849: Tantruming dwarf killed a pet cat, got sentenced for "murder"
Description | The title says it all. It's bordering on the line of feature, but feels buggy enough. The sentence was 200 or 260 days, I don't recall it precisely. I guess it's one of the following cases: - The game doesn't make a difference between killing a dwarf and killing a pet. Considering dwarves have [ETHIC:KILL_ANIMAL:ACCEPTABLE], this seems wrong. Possibly, pets are not treated as animals, but as [ETHIC:KILL_ENTITY_MEMBER]. OR - The game does make the difference (I'm not sure the sentence for dwarf killing isn't 1000 days or something), but calls even pet-killing a murder. This is confusing.
Additional Information | IIRC, this bug is as old as the game itself.

Killing a tame animal counts as murder according to the Dwarf Wiki, from 40d. Ethic:Kill_Animal probably counts towards WILD animals, and tame animals are counted as civ critters, I think - pets are given names, for example. For example, elves have "Ethic:Kill_animal" as self-defense, which reflects their world-gen/in game behaviour. You may also have to consider "Ethic:Torture_Animal". I'm leaning towards "not a bug" but rather "not necessarily intuitive/well described feature". I hope someone more versed in the ethics system will be able to fill any blanks. |

Yeah, it might also be the [ETHIC:TORTURE_ANIMALS:UNTHINKABLE]. But if it is, it shouldn't be described as a "murder". I'm not necessarily saying the sencence it too high - just that the "muder" is a confusing description. |
