my character found a weasel in the wilderness, hoping to get food out of it, he stealth moved in his back and proceeded to hammer it.

Every strikes is glancing back as if the creature was impervious to each strike and only the eyes were actually damaged.

character is proficient hammerman and talented fighter , it has "superhuman" strength

Only way to kill the creature was to strangle it as even punch and kicks were glancing back.

No they're all resulting with a "glance away"

This is pretty easy to repro in the Arena. Below are my combat logs

It seems if you land the blow their body, they get bruised and get propelled away. However, if you aim for their head or neck, it shot glances away

I'd speculate it has something to do with contact area. I notice similar behavior with marmots, which take an unusually long time to kill with a hammer



You bash Weasel 1 in the head from behind with your iron war hammer, but the attack glances away!
You bash Weasel 1 in the upper body from behind with your iron war hammer, bruising the skin!
Weasel 1 is propelled away by the force of the blow!
Weasel 1 breaks the grip of Weasel 2's teeth on Weasel 1's lower body.
Weasel 1's left rear leg skids along the ground, bruising the skin!

Interesting - another thing I've seen that I didn't think was a bug. My militia commander spent 5 pages of attacks "glancing off" a green glass FB (head, upper body, and lower body)using his masterwork silver warhammer... then bite its leg causing a good amount of damage. Ended up posting it in the funny stories forum thread. I had assumed that the FB material was just somehow resistant to weaponry.

40.10, while stealth moving near a flock of keas, i decided to train a bit my marskdwarf hammer skill by bashing them with my crossbow.
After the deed, 2 keas that weren't dead were unconscious on the ground.

Instead of aiming attacks, i just moved to the direction of the first kea, with the result of striking it down (i didn't paid attention at what kind of attack my character used)

Then i ran into the 2nd one that produced the "glance away" message at each crossbow bashing attack.

I decided then to aim an attack and instead of bashing i punched the unconscious kea, the target was hit and "exploded in gore", with the message of the creature being struck down.
So i guess the 1st kea must have died to a non-bashing attack as this problem still happens with bashing attacks only on very small creatures
