Summary0000737: Migrant hunters (with hunting labor enabled) haul their quiver to a stockpile and then pick up another one
Descriptionupon entering the map, any hunters who arrive with their own quivers immediately take the job "Store item in stockpile" and haul the quiver to a Finished Goods stockpile (if none exist, they drop it).

I suspect that it is because quivers are not part of a uniform (as they can't be added to one via the military screen) and are dropped as a result.

This makes it incredibly difficult to get a cross-bow militia running, or getting hunters to use ranged weapons.
Steps To ReproducePlace finished goods stockpile.
Get hunter immigrant.

well immigrants aren't in the militia, and I wouldn't expect civilians are in the habit of carrying quivers around unless they're hunters.

Are the affected dwarves hunters?
Do they have the hunting labor enabled when they arrive?

He had the hunting labor turned on as he arrived on the map, his title is Hunter, though oddly he has no skill in hunting (only Novice Marksdwarf, Dodger, and Glassmaker, and Adequate Ambusher).

The quiver he's hauling isn't even listed as belonging to him.

Edit:

After dropping off the quiver he proceeded a few spaces away in the stockpile and *picked up a different quiver.*

I have seen this behavior as well. This happens with every single hunter i've seen show up during a migration wave.

In my most recent case, he showed up with the following skills:
Talented Marksdwarf
Talented Dodger
Novice Lye Maker
Competent Dyer
Accomplished Ambusher
Competent Negotiator
Competent Liar
Novice Leader

The labors enabled were:
Hunting
Feed Patients/Prisoners
Recovering Wounded
-All Hauling
Cleaning.

It seems like this is endemic of an issue with new migrants being given an odd, and usually unrelated, set of skills to start with, and labors enabled that don't necessarily match those skills.

It seems like the Hunter is thinking "I don't know how to use this gear, so i'll just drop it... walk walk walk... Oh, crap, they want me to use that stuff i just dropped? Well, i guess i better go pick it back up...

Also notable in my case, i do not have any other quivers or archery gear laying around anywhere else in the fort, which might explain why the hunter goes back to the pile of gear he just threw down instead of heading into a stockpile.

I am also seeing this in v 0.31.02

Reminder sent to: Draco18s

Does this still occur in 31.10?

Having the same issue trying to get a damn marksdwarf to defend against a rather large crisis situation. All he does is try to haul his quiver to the stockpile tos tore it, and refuses to actually USE it. This results in less than stellar rushing into melee.

This will also happen if you add hunters to a squad of marksdwarves, and then activate the squad. They'll store their quivers and get new ones. Happened in 0.31.12
