Summary | 0002074: Combat text reports bones as "shattered" or "bruised" much more often than "fractured" |
Description | I noticed bones can be only "shattered" or "bruised"
Shouldnt they also be able to just simply fracture? |
Steps To Reproduce | Make an adventeurer and get a war hammer (by the way, hammers are too weak in this version)
Then go on a rampage and notice how the skulls and ribs only bruise or shatter. |

I THINK I've seen fractures, or at least broken bones, but I can't prove it. Will pay attention next time during a siege. |
Well they DO break, I seen "compound fracture" in health screen.
Just they only shatter and bruise, never just simply break. |
Fractures happen sometimes when the bone is hit by a piercing weapon -- I've seen it with two-handed swords. But yeah, there's not nearly enough of a middle ground. |
Under wounds one dwarf has first finger left hand and fourth finger right hand in red.
Under thoughts and preferences, that dwarf has "His first finger left hand is broken. His first finger left hand is smashed open. His fourth finger right hand is broken. His fourth finger right hand is smashed open".
This dwarf received these wounds by being beaten by the captain of the guard. I guess the dwarf captain was mafia :)
The above is on my screen now. From memory, I think I've seen a skull be broken, though I can't say whether it was on a dwarf or goblin. Creating a 9 or 10 z-level goblin drop should be an easy way to test this.
Speaking of which, my cook has a new specialty: goblin drop soup. |

^^^ We know that bones can get broken. This bug report is about the combat text, which almost always uses the term "shattered" and only seldom uses "fractured." |
Hurray! Shot a cheeta and "fractured" his skull.
It should still happen more often tho. |

Well on a new adventurer I noticed skill and stats seem to both "rust" over time of not using them. Now I fracture bones MUCH more often.
But now some stats are impossible to regain safely (disease resistance for example) or some are just impossible entirly. (memory comes to mind)
So this bug is mainly because adventurers start out too strong.

actually now fractures are more comman, but it still counts as "broken" in the description page and not "fractured" like it should be.
and "chipped" bones seem to be just "shattered" just renamed.

That's 0000131.

Yes, renaming was the whole point, because the name "shattered" was being used for too wide a range of results. Since that's been rebalanced, I'm marking this as fixed.
