Summary | 0001222: Reproduceable Military Screen Crash (with savegame)
Description | Sometime upon entering the second year I will experience a crash (have not narrowed down the cause of this initial crash yet, but it is likely upon opening the military screen as that is what causes the subsequent crashes). After reverting to my earlier save, and usually after experiencing a season change, I can no longer open the military menu. Attempting to do so results in an immediate crash to desktop with a watson error report. Occasionally I will get a C++ runtime error as well.
Steps To Reproduce | I do not have exact steps, there could be multiple things that influence this crash. Generally it occurs after the game crashes sometime during the second year. This is usually the first and only crash I have experienced in this fort. After reloading the save from whenever I had last saved, opening the military menu will usually cause a crash, a season change may be necessary to induce it, but once it has crashed, attempting to open the menu at the same point again will always reproduce the crash.

Just started a 3rd fort to test this issue. Was very slow about building up, just wanted to see if I could get past year 2. Year 2 spring rolls around, autosave kicks in, and I press 'm' for military menu. Boom, instant crash. I have not breached the caverns, I haven't even seen another wild animal other than the tame ones my dwarves and the caravan brought, and the only military related thing I have dealt with was briefly conscripting someone to fight off a kobold. I also have no smelter, so it's not the 'melting' bug other people have mentioned. I brought the save to my rooommates PC which has much more RAM and it still crashed. Also tested on one of our Windows XP computers, it still crashed. How am I the only one with this issue? I see plenty of reports of people making it to the point in the game where they are getting sieges/forgotten beasts, but I can't even get out of the first year. |

Not quite the same crash as the other military crashes I've looked at, just judging by the error codes. Edit: Have you tried the "Knife user" fix? See http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=378 [^] |

I discovered the knife thing the other day and have been testing to make sure it fixed it. It is definately the cause. Explains why it happens at year 2, as that's generally when kobolds start showing up with daggers. |
