Summary | 0001285: Figurine motifs do not influence value during trade
Description | Figurines (and I think also statues, but I have not had enough data to check on them) do not influence the value of a trade good. For instance, while having NO trade agreements with the humans, an item decorated with a turtle shell image of cats is shown as 70 bucks during trade, but if you view it in the trade screen in detail, its actual value is 60 bucks. Other turtle shell decorated items (like with a turtle shell image of lizards) do not change their value, so it must be the image of cats that make the difference. Figurines, however, never change their value based on the motif depicted, so in the above example, figurines of cats had their actual value and the trading value identical.
Steps To Reproduce | Produce a lot of crafts and decorate a lot of crafts and trade with merchants looking for decorated items with unusual values. Compare those with the values of figurines with the same motif depicted.

Do you have the save with the cat figurine example? If so it might be helpful to upload it. http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] |

I have uploaded a save where this can be studied. In order to allow circumstantial examination, I haven't actually traded in that save yet, so there is quite a bit of trade goods in the bins. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2183 [^] I didn't get a cat and these are the elves you have in the trade depot, but they show the behavior I described: In the second bin (the first has only 3 items or so in it), there is a decorated basalt amulet with a turtle shell image of a lizard. It gets boosted from 20 to 30 bucks. One or two bins later, there is a copper figurine of a statue, which the elves will buy at the default value. And in the third bin (I think, could also be the end of the second), there is an alunite scepter (I think) also decorated with a turtle shell image of a lizard fetching a higher price. On the other hand, other decorated alunite or basalt items do not get that bonus, and neither do amulets have any special bonus. The only aspect that sets these items apart are the motifs of the decorations. EDIT:IMPORTANT! I exchanged the save for the save from the next autumn when trading with the humans. There are more items with decorations, including a sterling silver earring with an image of diamonds whose value DOES NOT change. So, it is definitely only certain images that make the value change, but only for decorations, not for figurines. |

This may potentially be related to 0006440, though I cannot find the logic which performs these checks on stand-alone art images, only on ones that are attached to item improvements; given that stand-alone art images visible to caravans originated in version 0.31.01, it's possible that the check is missing entirely. For that matter, it looks like art facet modifiers for one's own civilization do not apply to item values within the fortress, but only when trading with the mountainhomes. It's not clear whether this is intentional. |
