Summary | 0001862: Weight discrepancy between boulders and blocks/bars
Description | In previous versions, boulders had a "base weight" of 300, blocks 250, and bars 200. For example, native platinum nuggets would weigh 6420Γ while platinum bars would weigh 4280Γ (and platinum OR native platinum blocks would weigh 5350Γ). However, in the current version, boulders are extremely heavy compared to bars and blocks - freshly mined native platinum nuggets weigh 1498Γ, yet when smelted, platinum bars weigh only 42Γ (and platinum blocks weigh 53Γ, still consistent with the ratio in previous versions). With actual ores, it makes sense for the mass to decrease somewhat (as the oxygen/sulfur and other impurities are removed), but the reduction seen here is somewhat extreme. If boulders really are supposed to weigh this much (doing the math, it works out to about a half-meter diameter sphere), the bars and blocks they yield should probably be a lot heavier than they are right now.
Additional Information | There's also the question of how dwarves are even able to LIFT things that heavy...

Since 1Γ is now equal to 1 kilogram, that means that "platinum nuggets" weigh *one and a half metric tons*. So Yeah... |

Damn. Props to the haulers, man! I can't lift 1 1/2 metric tons, thats for damned sure. |

If a single rock "block" is assumed to be solid and the size of a typical brick (8x4x2.25 inches = 72 cubic inches or about 1180 cubic centimeters), then one unit of "blocks" logically consists of only two bricks. |

The root of this problem is the "size" of the items in question - boulders are size 7000, blocks are size 250, and bars are size 200. |

This isn't quite as bad now - while boulders have been increased to size 10000, blocks and bars are now size 600 (larger) and are also produced in sets of 4, which means that you only lose 76% of the material instead of 96-97%. |
