Are you getting "cancels surgery: patient not resting"? Was that fortress started before 31.07? If so, you should deconstruct and reconstruct all your tables and traction benches, as described at 0002388:0008750. Does that fix it?

For what it's worth, I just got that message in a fortress started in 31.12. The only difference is that a "recover wounded" job isn't generated to put the dwarf back in the bed. Instead he just hangs around with "No Job" instead of "Rest".

No footkerchief, I wasn't getting that message at all. I didn't get any job cancellation messages at all, actually. Basically what was happening was, the surgeon was tasked to operate, he moved the patient onto the table and started operating, and someone was immediately tasked to put this patient back into bed. The surgeon was tasked with the surgery job the entire time, and would move the patient straight back onto the table. This continued until I turned off Recover Wounded for everyone in the fortress.

The surgery did complete once I did this, though.

Do you still have a save demonstrating the problem? If so, you should upload it to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^]

I got a zillion saves with "patient not resting". Main cause is NOT recovering wounded (disabled it on all), but it rather seems to be when they have multiple wounds that require surgery. All the ones that had one wound, get patched up in no-time, the ones that have multiple wounds never get out of surgery :(

My dwarves stay on the table, noone gets near and I still get patient not resting.

I can confirm this happening in 31.12, similar to bug 0000410.

Surgeon moves dwarf to table to operate, counts as out of bed and triggers other dwarves coming to "recover them" back into bed. Creates perpetual loop never allowing the doctor to complete surgery.

The only way I've been able to allow a doctor to perform surgery is by locking all the doors to my hospital once the doctor is inside alone with the patient and then keeping tabs on whether he is finished or not.

31.16 here on windows.
Right now, I have the same problem.
My surgeon puts the dwarf from his bed to the table and tries to perform his surgery. Then suddently, one random dwarf comes out of nowhere and snatches him from the table and puts him into another bed -> Cancels Surgery: Patient not resting.
Disabling the snatching labor kinda fixes the problem, but is micro intensive.

Problem seems just to be, that the patient on the table is considered "out of bed" and "needs rescuing".

(edit - version number fixed)

31.17 on linux, newly generated world.
Doctor tries to operate patient and takes him to traction bench then:
... cancels Place In Traction: patient not resting.

I tried removing hospital beds and building one bed right next to traction bench, then it worked fine.

It seems hospital bed and traction bench needs to be right next to each other?
