Summary | 0004731: Dwarf kills Fire Imp with short sword -> Hot sword melts fat and never cools down!
Description | I had a fire imp running around in a staircase some time ago. I sent a squad to deal with the problem and one of the swordmasters killed it easily. However i noticed, that her hand was melted and gushing dwarf blood. She didnt make it.(She was wearing steel gauntlets and leather mittens btw.) Several months later, after I had lost 2 more dwarves for no obvious reason, I watched a dwarf grabbing a weapon and spraying blood all over the barracks afterwards. I told him to drop that thing and he barely survived with his fat melted. Apparently the masterwork steel short sword is really hot and doesn't cool down. Although it's reasonable that swords warm up if they touch fire imps, i guess being hot enough to kill dwarfs is somehow wrong. Also i think it's weird that dwarfs apparently dont mind if their sword is melting their hand. I would have expected "Urist cancels pickup equipment: Too damn hot" here. ;)
Steps To Reproduce | Kill a Fire Imp with a weapon. Watch Urist die. Save available if necessary
Additional Information | I think that I read something similar with magma before. However i couldn't find it neither in the bug tracker nor in the forums. I apologize for spelling and other mistakes since English is not my first language.

Reminder sent to: Thror What contaminants were on the sword or those dwarfs that died? Have you killed any other forgotten beasts that might have left blood/secretions that is causing the wounds? You can upload a save for review to http://dffd.wimbli.com [^] and post a link here. |

Would you happen to have temperature turned off? |

The Sword had a Fire imp goo covering. There were no forgotten beasts. The dwarfs clearly died from heat since their status screen showed their fat as melted. I have temperature turned on, I will turn it off today and see what happens. Edit: With temperature turned off, the dwarfs can equip the sword without problems. |

Reminder sent to: Thror Can you upload a save to http://dffd.wimbli.com [^] ? It would be interesting to see if the goo/sword ever cools down, as it appears the goo (blood) is heated by the imp's homeotherm (10095) whereas fat melts at 10078. The goo itself doesn't carry a fixed_temp. Was the sword possibly hit with an imp's fireball (that would heat the sword and the goo up)? |

Fire imp goo doesn't have a FIXED_TEMP, so it should eventually cool down to room temperature. If the fire imp had been swimming in magma recently, its body could have been very hot (i.e. close to the temperature of the magma) and that could certainly take a while to cool down, though not quite as long as Thror was observing... |

Save is here: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=4623 [^] (I hope this works) Just watch the armory at z135 and unpause. The incident was some time ago (6th page of combat reports currently) If i remember correctly the dwarf killed the fire imp very quickly without giving it the opportunity to throw fireballs. The Imp came out of the magma and was probably quite hot^^ Although I don't know if the sword will cool down in the long run, I think, that -the sword is way too hot for just touching the fire imp for a short time -the sword should cool down much faster and not be able to kill 3 dwarfs^^ |
