Summary0007662: Ocean shores generated with non-porous rock (dacite, shale), no aquifer
DescriptionI have embarked along several oceans which supposedly contain aquifers, however the "beach" is some sort of non-porous rock (dacite or shale) which is unable to contain an aquifer. It is possible to dig straight down from the "beach" into the caverns, so the aquifer isn't just being pushed further down.
Steps To Reproducegenerate a world and embark on an ocean shore

Are you sure there's not an aquifer that starts further from the beach?

Sure, other biomes that claim to have aquifers generally do have aquifers. Ocean biomes that claim to have an aquifer, though, are (more?) problematic.

On my fourth attempt, I found a red sand beach with the expected aquifer layers below the beach.

On my fifth attempt, I found a conglomerate "beach" with aquifer layers below the beach. However, the neighboring biome which was also supposed to have an aquifer did not.

So I guess the problem really boils down to the embark screen's aquifer statements being unreliable.

If it's erratic, a save (preferably with an active fortress) would be helpful. Please upload one to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] and post the link here.

edit: would 0005966 explain this?

Yes, that is a much more direct statement of the problem. I'd still like to see more sand beaches and fewer stone "beaches", but that's probably more of a suggestion than a bug.
