Summary | 0008367: Soldiers not attack nearby enemy when using kill or station order.
Description | I'm under siege, and when I send my troops to station near the enemies or use the kill order the dwarfs will go to the enemy and then do nothing for quite a while (like a few days). Then suddenly they seem to "find the enemy" and will kill them of in a second. But normally they will be attacked again, and again without attacking back (they are danger room trained so hard to kill) It seems they are better able to find enemies that are not marked for "kill" a lot faster, and kill them of at normal speed.
Steps To Reproduce | 1) Send division a and b to station near the invaders or use the kill order on nearby trolls. 2) a + b runs to the enemy 3) the enemy attacks them for ages (without doing much damage due to danger room and quality steel armor) 4) dwarfs start to die 5) suddenly the army kills all enemies.
Additional Information | Playing 0.40.13 starter pack r3 with Ironhand graphics and dfhack wit pure bugfixes activated. # I really wonder why I seem to be the only one with this issue (after a short look around forum and the mantis) Saves: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9805 [^] (0.40.13, small) http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9845 [^] (0.40.13) http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9846 [^] (0.40.13) http://metamagick.net/region1.rar [^] (0.40.14) http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10174 [^] (0.40.16, small) http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10240 [^] (0.40.19)

Tried to move the savegame to a clean vanilla install and had same issues. There seems to be something weird going on in the battle since I get a few "The Troll charges at The Troll!" messages. |

This is related to http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=8364 [^] somehow. |

I second this. My human/dwarf siege is in active stage and they don't seems to retreat. Pair of humans currently caged now and some other being attacked by my marksdwarfs from tower. One human and one hostile axedwarf managed to climb through walls to livestock area and started to kill my cattle. I ordered my melee military to get rid of them and they acknowledged command moving to targets but then they just standing around doing nothing (with killing command active and hostiles attacking them and cattle). I tried switch to 'move' and also tried to paint a burrow there and issue 'defend burrow' schedule for current alarm state. My melee dwarfs are equipped with weapons and armor. There's screenshot of battle log: https://s3.amazonaws.com/firfi/screenshots/df/Screen+Shot+2014-10-23+at+11.19.08+AM.png [^] |

Have a same trouble. My military dont atack enemy. Got seweral experiments on approaching Forgotten Beast. And noticed a strange thing: A problem seems to appear while many soldiers(30 or more) gathered in the same plase. Then I move 1 or 2 squads(10-20 soldiers) against FB - my soldiers atacks and defeat FB properly. even through "move" order But if I move 3 or more squads - they became absolutely harmless and die one by one. Before that experiments i thought that "station" command is a reason. Because then i told my militia to "kill" without "move" order - they approached the enemy in small numbers at a time and atacked properly in most cases. But if they gathered in big numbers near the enemy they became harmless again. A command "station" is just lead to this situation. I thing it is a same bug. You militia began to atack only after a few number of dorf died. So, they number decreased to appropreate level and bugging stopped P.S. sorry for my english |

This seems to be a bug that has been around for quite some time, and there's a bit of extra information in bug 481. Now, it seems to happen after enemies change Z-levels, and with the addition of multi-tile trees, this leads to loads of problems in forested areas. Also, I've seen people having issues with flying enemies, most notably kea's. |

Save with the bug in progress: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10174 [^] Notably, the dwarves attacked the minotaur at first but are now just standing on top of it doing nothing. |

Not sure if this helps, but here's my own save that reproduces the issue on 0.40.19 Just download and unpause. These dwarves are truly noble in their pacifist convictions. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10240 [^] |
