Armok News

August 8th, 2006

Well, I've been secretly working on an adventure mode inside of Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress. Now that dwarves has been released, this will be the natural continuation of Armok. See you over there!

September 27th, 2004

I've updated the "You Finally Aren't Naked" a bit: Armok 0.04.51. It shouldn't crash during heat cone spells now, and you can specify your character a bit more in the creation screens.

Early Morning, August 26th, 2004

HA! Not dead. If you've been watching the forum, you might have noticed that things have been moving along. And now, over a span encompassing the entire year 16th year of Zonk's life, I bring to you a lackluster piece of buggy crap:  "You Finally Aren't Naked", Armok 0.04.50.

July 22nd, 2003

I just put up what I think is a more robust version of the magic release. You can use the link below.

July 14th, 2003

Only seven months since my last release. That's not so bad. He he he. Anyway, you can grab the "Wholesome Fun" release now. Armok 0.04.00. Don't expect much magic. The point of this release, and why it took so long, was to lay down the technical framework for the rest of the game. From here it is on to items, clothing, and missile weapons, with an eye on the major Quaint Thorpe revision coming up.

December 15th, 2002

A preliminary "The Game Finally Has Trees" release is up. Armok 0.03.60. Damn... it has been a long time. Always remember to check the Forum for more up to date news.

July 27th, 2002

The second fix release is up. Armok 0.03.50c. You can also submit your own editor creatures to be posted on the Submissions Page.

July 23rd, 2002

The first fix release is up. Armok 0.03.50b.

July 21st, 2002

Damn. It's about time. Armok 0.03.50. I've updated all of the relevant pages. In particular, almost all of the Future pages have been brought up to speed.

July 14th, 2002

The Screen Shots have been updated with pictures of the new human models. As usual, check out the Forum if you want to keep closer tabs on the project -- this news page is mostly for new release announcements now, one of which will be coming along shortly.

May 6th, 2002

A final Save/Load Cleanup Release is up -- save files from 0.03.40d are compatible if you want to move your save folder over. I'm going to move on to the editor release now.

May 3rd, 2002

The Save/Load Cleanup Release is even more fixed. There were some major crash bugs hanging around, and I've gotten rid of them. If Armok still crashes on your computer, let me know or let the world know so I can make it work. Make sure you have Armok 0.03.40d first. The previous versions are faulty.

May 2nd, 2002

The Save/Load Cleanup Release is fixed. Just grab the dll file from the download page and put it in the exe folder or in your windows/system folder.

May 1st, 2002

The Save/Load Cleanup Release is up. That'll be it for strict cleaning releases for a while. I'm now moving on to editors and reptiles and humans without tails. The most important thing to remember while I work on these editors is that I need them to add trees, which come with the release after the next one. Then we'll have forests, finally, after all these years...

April 12th, 2002

Another Cleanup Release is up. Now I'm going to go back to working on saving and loading, as well as some growth issues. Things will be *un*graphics oriented for some time now, thankfully, although I'm still going to do some more clean up prior to actually starting the motif editor.

April 8th, 2002

I've been fixing bugs and so on -- a revised Cleanup Release is up. I still have to do saving/loading and so on, so this is not the official Next Cleanup release:)

April 6th, 2002

The first cleanup Release is up. I'll probably have a few more until I move on to the Reptile Release. This one focused on cleaning up the front end (title screen/character generation interface/etc.) and speeding some parts of the code up.

March 31st, 2002

The "Annoying Nonsense" Release is up. Things will slow down for a little while now -- school starts up again this week, and I'm TAing Math 51 (the most populous math class, although it's off-sequence in Spring, so they only need 5 of us:) ). On the other hand, I don't see how I could do things any faster than I have been doing them. I need to rest for a few hours. <slumps over, dead>

March 22nd, 2002 (12:45 PM)

I found a fatal bug in the last release. The fixed version is here.

March 22nd, 2002 (3:45 AM)

The "Cut Up The Dead" Release is up. 3D models coming next.

March 19th, 2002

I fussed around with the web site a little bit. Thanks go to Anubis for the basic template and the image up there.

March 16th, 2002

The next release it up. Now if only I weren't so groggy <stumbles off to bed>...

March 13th, 2002

I can still probably make the March 16th for release that I set in the forum. We'll see.

I added some content information for parents to the web site.

I also put up a screen shot of the new indicator lights for bifurcation and stances:)

March 10th, 2002

Programming has been going well lately. I've updated the log, and I added a few things that occurred to me to the unsorted ideas area.

March 3rd, 2002

I've posted the "Run By and Aim for the Eyeball" Release. Feel free to comment. The standard pages (Plan, Log) have been updated. This version mainly features the reintroduction of many of the interface screens that got killed when I went 3D.

March 2nd, 2002 (2 AM)

That Unsorted Section I just made is empty now. The Future page has been bloated by new material. Every section has been updated. It will now take thirty rather than twenty years to finish the game.

March 1st, 2002

If you've been keeping up at the Forum, you'll know I haven't been idle:) The next version should be out this weekend sometime. I've also added a new section to the Future page ("Unsorted"), with all of the ideas from the forum and the notes that I'm slowly fleshing out and moving over to their appropriate places. There were too many ideas to write out credits for every one, but I think every contributor made it on to the Credits page. If you feel shafted or otherwise left out, let me know!!!

February 19th, 2002

There were a few bugs in the last release, which I've now hopefully fixed. The new version is here.

February 18th, 2002

I've finished creature descriptions (at least to the point where I need them for now). The "Hair and Nails" release should be out sometime this weekend. I'd put it out sooner, but I have differential geometry to do:)

Well, maybe not... I worked a little late tonight: The "Hair and Nails" release.

February 13th, 2002

I've been working fairly consistently. Aside from the updates I posted on the Forum last week, I've now updated the Log. I also removed some pieces from the Future section that were completed. Updating the mammal motif to the new structures is time consuming, and there's one point that will be fairly annoying to code (bilateral symmetry of local growths -- i.e. if a given mammal has a tuft of white hair on its left foreleg, it should have one on its right foreleg too, in most cases). Then I need to decide exactly how to phrase creature descriptions, etc. I keep thinking of new growths and refinements, but I'm trying to keep a lid on the more extraneous ones, so hopefully there won't be too many tangents. For instance, mammal motifs now include generic descriptions for each body part type, so that it becomes almost trivial to add on extra limbs (as in a mutate magic effect, say). The added limb/sac/horn/etc. would be consistent with not only the mammal motif, but the particular creature at hand (so a black-and-orange striped feline with short straight fur would sprout a black-and-orange striped mutant arm with short straight fur -- unless it rolled the usual mammal motif chance for variation).

January 23rd, 2002

There. Armok 0.03.26 has been posted. Check out the Plan to see what's next (note that some interfaces have yet to be updated and will be reintroduced over the next three releases).

January 15th, 2002

Some things have been programmed over the past few days. The only obstacles to the next release are the status screens and some bugs. The Plan has been updated to reflect the changes, and I put up the future release points as I've currently charted them. They are a bit different from the release points I put up in the forum recently. I updated my links. Who knows what other stale things lurk on this site?

January 13th, 2002

I should be able to get some things done this quarter, depending on how annoying writing up homework solutions for PDE undergrads is. I did a bit today. The Plan has been updated to coincide with the list I posted on the Forum a while ago.

January 7th, 2002

I'm back from vacation. I did a little bit of work today. The Plan has been altered to reflect the changes. I'm not sure how things are going to progress over the next few weeks, as the new quarter is beginning at school. I'll post another update when things settle down.
