Summary | 0003442: Sieges send their animal tamer(s), no more siege mounts afterwards
Description | After only a few years, sieging civilizations tend to get bold enough that they send their General* leading a siege squad. Typically, said General will have been responsible for taming any number of creatures during worldgen and permitting them to be used as mounts, and once said tamer is dead, the civilization never has access to said creatures again. Bug 0002892 makes this even worse, since the tamer doesn't even need to be killed - even upon retreating, the unit's position will be removed and all of their contributed mounts will become unavailable to the civilization. If the availability of siege mounts is to be contingent on the survival of the historical figure who tamed them, they probably ought to be excluded from arriving during sieges. This is most prevalent with Goblin civilizations, though it can presumably happen with other races as well. My first fort's Goblin neighbors rode giant olms until their general fled after a siege, and they arrived on foot ever since; the same has likely occurred with my second fortress (whose Goblins rode on elk birds, giant bats, rutherers, and voracious cave crawlers). (* or equivalent position)
Additional Information | From another viewpoint, this makes 0003015 slightly less annoying, since it eventually stops being a problem.

My second fortress is confirmed to have been affected by this - all of the goblin sieges for the past several years have been entirely on foot (though they still include plenty of trolls). |

There have been reports in version 0.34.11 that the death of a Goblin general no longer removes the civilization's ability to bring mounts. |

Ok - I'm going to mark this as fixed for now. If we find that not to be the case, we can reopen it. |
