Summary | 0003916: Bizarre intermittent lag, possibly due to ghosts (save provided) |
Description | I was testing various causes of the dreaded "lag death" that afflicts many fortresses. One of the permutations I tried was sealing my fort from the outside world (with an antisocial fisherman sealed and self-contained elsewhere to observe the aftermath) and breaching my high-pressure water line. After the flooding was over, my framerate had not significantly changed. For a minute or two. Then the game began to hitch every 100 ticks or so.
The only possible causative factor I can see is the sudden erratic behavior of the ghosts. 50+ dwarves died today, so there should be many, but none are visible on the unit list. The one I see in the world only blinks into existence for instants at a time. Earlier, I saw a ghost or two intentionally haunting a sane area.

A soldier managed to become a Swimmer before the flooding was over and swim to safety; I let him into the fisherman's little shack. |
