Summary | 0008700: Trees can't be designated for cutting when other part of given tree is already designated for that
Description | I have a tree which sometimes refuses to be designed for cutting. The tree is located just west of my south gate. The place is noted with "# - The Unfellable Tree". It is an apricot tree. I was guessing it is somehow caused by those walls nearby but it seems to be rather done by other designations: one of his upper branches is already designated for cutting but is inaccessible.
Steps To Reproduce | Designate some upper branch ("XXX tree trunk" tile) for chopping down Try changing the cutting place with designation of other branch of given tree
Additional Information | I have tried overriding the already designated branch with another cut designation and removing it and again designating it on other branch of tree. Removing and redesignating seem to repair: I can then change cutting place just by designating other branch (= "apricot tree trunk"). But saved state shows a designation which doesn't allow this. The cutting place can't be changed until you remove the old designation AFAIK.

I find this change in behaviour somewhat useful. First, it gives you a visual warning that you have designated a tree twice - something that can kill woodcutters depending on which z-level is targeted. Second it makes it easier to mass designate large areas of forest land on hill-sides. Simply select the lowest z-level first in a big rectangle, then repeat 1 z-level up until all trees are selected. |

My point was it doesn't seem to be stable: 1) I can't change the cutting place in the current state of state. 2) Once I remove current designation and designate again, I suddenly can change the cutting place. 3) But sometimes even after removing the current designation and changing the cutting place several times, it "freezes" the cutting place again and I am back at 1) And I don't know why it switches its behaviour like this. |
