Summary | 0009090: Filled minecarts can be stored in barrels, can nest in other containers
Description | My embark put me on the summit of a freezing volcano, while the ideal spot for a fort was in a cavern over 100 Z levels down. To expedite getting all my gear down there, I channeled a very deep hole and put a minecart next to it to dump the stuff down there, which was loaded from a "everything but rocks" stockpile. I had designated the spot at the bottom of the hole as another everything stockpile, but my dwarfs were taking barrels from it and hauling them back up. I decided to disable the dumping by unassigning the minecart from the route while I blocked off the target stockpile. The minecart was tossed on the source pile, and I noticed that my dwarfs were still loading barrels of meat into it, but shrugged it off. Some time later I was ready to start dumping again. Only, the minecart was nowhere to be found and my dwarfs wouldn't put it on the track stop. I located it from the stocks screen, which pointed me to a "(tower-cap barrels Barrel (pecan wood) (0000001))" sitting in the stockpile. The barrel contained the minecart, which in turn contained 20 meat barrels and 5 empty barrels.

Reproduced on a new save. The criteria to get this to happen is a minecart assigned to a route which accepts barreled items, removed from the route while containing items, and placed on a stockpile which accepts both barreled items and minecarts*. The minecart will be placed in any available empty barrel, which will be renamed to "FIRST_ITEM_IN_MINECART Barrel". * Haven't checked whether both criteria are necessary. |

Further nesting is possible too. I have a plump helmet spawn in a bag, in a minecart, in a barrel, in a minecart, in a barrel. Sadly I couldn't convince them to stick a minecart in a bag. |
