Summary | 0009527: Dwarf doesn't drop item immediately when ordered to kill something.
Description | My only Military dwarf picked up a corpse to butcher (that was his secondary job) when I noticed a Troll had entered my fortress. I obviously ordered him to attack, but the dwarf would not drop the body. This made him extremely slow. After he got to the stairs, he finally dropped the corpse and was able to attack the Troll.
Steps To Reproduce | I haven't tried, but I assume if you get a military dwarf (with all their equipment) to do a task like butcher a corpse and then order him/her to attack something, they will continue to haul the item for a bit.
Additional Information | If it is needed, I have the save file that still has the dwarf holding the corpse.

Was he still active and with orders in the moment you gave the attack order? Dwarfs take some time to switch between inactive and active military. |

No, he was in the process of hauling a corpse (his job was "Butcher Animal"). After I gave him the order, his job immediately switched to "Kill Troll", but he still was carrying the body for a bit. Maybe you're right and he was just being slow. I don't know. I just feel that even if they are doing something, if they are the sole member of their squad (actually of my whole military), they should drop what they are doing and immediately rush to fight. |

I've had dwarfs haul items into the battle field multiple times, sometimes pretty heavy stuff, only dropping the items when charging the enemy. |
