Summary | 0007981: Grasstrample has no effect
Description | Exactly what it says. The GRASSTRAMPLE tag is now completely non-functional, or so it seems.
Steps To Reproduce | Mod your game so your dwarves have GRASSTRAMPLE:50, which before would've instantly crushed the grass into nothingness. Watch as they spring with a light step over the terrain and even the most densest of grass patches suffer no more than they would the step of a ghost.
Additional Information | Probably has something to do with the movement changes.

Additional info: this was always one of the things that I really liked, which is probably why I apparently noticed it was broken before anyone else... I'm just surprised it took a whole month for someone to notice. |

On further investigation, it appears that GRASSTRAMPLE still functions, but very, very differently than it used to, and at a much lower rate. It takes nearly a year of ingame time with dwarves at [GRASSTRAMPLE:50] in order to see much of an effect, and it still appears sporadic and random (i.e. trampled grass interrupted at random points by patches of dense, untouched grass). |

Is it possible that GRASSTRAMPLE is only reducing one of the 100 "units" of grass at a time? |

I can't speak for adventure mode (is it even in there?) but I've seen lots of grass trampling in my multiple forts within 40.08... I often have large herds of puppies/dogs, poults/turkeys, etc. sitting around a single 21x21 movement area. It could be related to your second note, as they generally sit in the pen/pasture for 6 months to a year (2 years for the 50+ poults and occasionally a month before slaughter) - but I don't put anything that grazes in that area (grazing also appears to be working fine for me)... |

dree12: that's almost definitely what's happening. I analyzed GRASSTRAMPLE back in version 0.31.19 when dense grass was added, and each "trample" depletes 10 units of grass in the tile (of a possible 100); it stands to reason that it still works that way in the latest version. |

An interesting addition to this: Grasstrample has little effect on grass, but the effect on cave moss is exactly the same as it was before. |

I've done a little experimentation; this still exists in 42.01. |
